There is No Tottenham Tax, Just Levy Being Cheap

Talk of West Ham attempting to charge Tottenham Hotspur a so-called “Spurs tax” over the sale of Mohammed Kudus is completely laughable.

Not that I’d disagree with the concept, you understand—after all, it was Spurs who once let it be known that they’d no longer do transfer business with West Ham.

So, if the Hammers hierarchy decided to respond with a tit-for-tat ‘Tottenham tax’, I’d completely understand it. In fact, I’d defend the club’s right to charge them more. But let’s be clear—that’s not what’s happening here.

Despite various reports, including one from TalkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs, suggesting a conspiracy is afoot, I don’t believe it for a second.

The theory goes that, due to historic tension and London rivalry between the clubs, West Ham are demanding more from Spurs for Kudus than they would from any other buyer.

It’s nonsense.

Kudus has an £85 million buyout clause—that’s his actual price to everyone any club is welcome to activate it. However, it’s widely accepted that West Ham would settle for a £65 million offer.

Tottenham’s problem isn’t a mysterious surcharge—it’s the fact that they’ve offered nothing close to what West Ham are asking. Yet rather than pay the going rate Spurs would seemingly rather imagine there is some pricing conspiracy against them.

Personally, I’d rather West Ham walk away and either keep Kudus or sell him to Chelsea. The fact Spurs are now briefing the media and playing the victim, simply because they can’t sign someone else’s player for the price they’d prefer, is ridiculous.

The Kudus transfer should be one of the easiest of the summer: the player wants to leave, there’s a clause in place, and the fee is well known. Simple!

The only issue? Daniel Levy just doesn’t want to pay the price.

Personally I wouldn’t be doing business with Spurs. Even if it is for someone that just hasn’t performed that we want shot of.
Having said all that, if they do decide to pay what we want for a player that appears to have very limited tactical nous, limited passing ability and is not as good as a player that we already have in his best position, then by all means allow Spurs to waste all that cash.

No tax for spurs because we actually want to offload one of our rejects on them. As for the Arsenal tax on Declan Rice though, absolutely yes there was an Arsenal tax.

Hate Levy, he is the Donald Trump of the premier league, incompetent and autocratic, will eventually bankrupt the Spuds which will be something to celebrate 🙌 having said that we have Sullivan who is equally incompetent these low ballers are universally hated and with good reason.

Foitball would be better without them imho

Hope we get a good offer for Kudus and Paqueta when he is cleared and sign some quality younger players like Morton, Elliot and McAtee COYI

Spurs have the opportunity Esp with Champions league football & have the opportunity of purchasing a quality player with PL experience just pay the £65m and move on

Totally agree with the article as Levy has done this time and again.Makes a joke of his claim about wanting to win the premier league and the champions league.Has a team done that with cheaply bought youth players and low spending. It was great Spurs won a trophy last season but that wasn’t down to Levy.Stop pleasing ENIC and the shareholders and start pleasing the fans.

At the end of the day both parties are trying to do what’s best for business. Tottenham want to pay as little as possible and we want as much as possible. That’s business and that’s all football is these days unfortunately. I kind of hope that Sullivan is applying a Tottenham tax. They shouldn’t get to dictate that they won’t deal with us and then are happy to once they want something. Personally, I wouldn’t deal with them. Keep hold of him, hopefully he’ll have a better season and his price will rocket again. I will be honest though and I really don’t mean to offend anyone here. So if you are offended then I can only apologise, it’s not my intention, just what I can see happening. But I can see towards the end of the transfer window, if we still have hold of Kudus, then I can see Liverpool coming in for him. I know their minds and business is elsewhere at the moment after the tragic passing of Jota but once the season has kicked off and business gets back to normal, there is a hole left in the Liverpool squad that will probably need to be filled. As Kudus as supposedly stated he wants to go there and they were apparently interested then I can see it happening a bit more likely now.

I thought it was us who ceased dealings with Sp@r/s because of the Adebayor debacle when they reneged on a deal on deadline day?
