Thin pickings on summer freebie list for Irons

|

West Ham – like most other clubs presumably – will be taking an interest in the players come out of contract at their various clubs this summer.

But despite a new strike force probably required, pickings appear thin in that area and instead the club look likely to need to use the £45 million they seemingly want to spend on Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez.

ClaretandHugh has taken a look at the more well known of those coming to the end of their deals @https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/endendevertraege

Sadly several of the strikers throw up the “been there done that” thought with these the more prominent names:

Danny Wellbeck ( Arsenal) Aged 28, Olivier Giroud (Chelsea) Age 32, Max Kruse (Werder Bremen) Age 30, Daniel Sturridge 29

In midfield  both Ander Herrara (28) and Juan Mata (30) could be available but even should they decide to move on will be looking for money presumably out of our pay league.

At the back Liverpool’s left sided Alberto Moreno (26) could be on a free along with Chelsea’s David Luiz (31) and former Man U right sided defender Rafael (28) – now at Lyon.

Moreno is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen, good going forward though.
As for the strikers we should pass as all will want big wages and at least 2 of which are injury prone

I would be concerned with both Welbeck and Sturridge, as the reason they fell out of their first XIs to begin with was the fact they kept getting injured. With all due respect, do we want another Jack Wilshire or Andy Carroll to deal with?

  • Clive says:

I assume these players are only available if they are not offered a contract extension at the clubs they are already at. Samir Nasri and Andy Carrol included.
