Remember the days in 2023 and 2024 when first David Moyes then Sullivan Lopetegui and Steidten threw the Declan Rice cash around, and then mortgaged the club to the hilt on top to buy players who flopped, yet are still contracted to the club despite not playing for the Hammers – in some cases – for years.

I couldn’t help remembering this and smiling wistfully as I read a fan blog site from the club we love to hate in north London: Without learning the lesson of history, it seems the Spurs may be heading down that same well-trodden path.
Spuds fan site Hotspur HQ reveals the madness that has befallen our least favourite north London neighbour, in particular over their Conor Gallagher signing:

I’ve got news for them: Worse has followed with their signings of Fernandes and Tonali.
Seemingly nobody is learning anything after their ‘worst deal ever’, judging from the enormous salary they’re now paying Mateus Fernandes – reported to be a million a month (length of contract unknown) and Sondro Tonali’s £1.2 million. A month. For six years. That’s an astounding eighty six million over six years.
For one player.
West Ham fans will watch on, eagerly waiting for the first mis-step or faltering of these huge, multi millionaires and their seemingly intoxicated owners who are betting billions on their club succeeding.
It makes some of Sullivan’s mistakes look like chicken feed.
The Tottenham board has been as bad as ours has been, they just escaped we didn’t.
Watched Stefan Borson talking about this and he said Spurs can afford it because of all the years underinvestment by Levy so they have a lot of play and can afford more.
Not our problem but that club could implode if the signings don’t work out. Expectation of Europe will be high given how much they are spending, DeZerbi is on £12m a year also on a 5 year contract.
Fernandes is reportedly on £10m a year
The difference is huge MT, N17 are a money making machine, although Hammers turnover peaked above average for a few seasons, for perspective post Rice sale, we needed to replace a dozen players, which we didn’t, we were two light. Spent circa £140m on ten.
N17 spent over £100m on Gallagher and Kudos alone.

In all honesty we cannot compare our bad transfer business to another team who are just as wasteful with their money as we were
Thankfully, with Sullivan out of the picture, we are bringing in some serious money on our transfers. First with the £85m on Fernandes and possibly with £50m on Summerville.
And now with Koppen in place, we are hoping that our transfer business is no longer as hit and miss as it has been
