However much these several reports seem to offer news of disappointingly low-level West Ham transfer targets, they refuse to go away. An outcast striker, who’s already played for both north London and west London Premier League club – without success, it has to be said, is now reported as being ‘on West Ham’s radar’ – one can only assume because of the price.
Which is a sad but true reflection on the reality of the Hammers’ situation right now. Former Bundesliga striker Timo Werner, on loan at Spurs again this season, has singularly failed to impress and won’t be retained by Spurs even though the north London club has a bargain £8.5 million option to buy him.
Prior to Tottenham, Werner of course played 56 games for Chelsea after leaving RB Leipzig as their all time record goal scorer in 2020.
He’s now a Leipzig player again – and they apparently don’t want him back so it would seem all that Premier League expertise – but massive underachievement – is available to West Ham at a bargain £8.5 million price. Perhaps a case of third time lucky for Werner?
According to Spurs’ site tothelaneandback.com:
“It was reported earlier that Spurs are willing to offload Timo Werner once the season ends. That still stands true. However, the Germany international faces a dilemma as Red Bull Leipzig do not want to keep him as well for next season. The only way Werner can save his career is by seeking for a new move quickly. TalkSPORT reports that West Ham United are interested in signing the 29-year-old.
The Hammers are also willing to pay £8.5m for his services and believe that Werner would be a good backup option to have. The ex-Chelsea forward is also open to stay in London and wants to prove his critics wrong by performing well in the Premier League next season.”
Cheap as chips. However if the report is true it makes a mockery of West Ham’s claim that Brentford striker (who has a superb record) Yoane Wissa was turned down owing to his age. Wissa is still 28. Werner is 29. Go figure.
Wrong age, slow, already failed at two clubs in the Premier, but hey the price is right so Sully will be in full flight. Oh my West Ham where atr thou?
Danny Ings contract extension? No transfer fee = bigger saving and no adverse effects on our squad.
Jamie Vardy even better option than Werner.
Taffy – Danny Ings contract extension !!! He has scored 4 goals in 52 PL appearances since joining us FFS. Over £100,000 a week for that sort of return you have got to be joking. Nowhere near PL level.
Point is Essex – Werner is likely to be less effective than Danny Ings in my opinion. That is not bigging up Danny’s contribution but I think Werner would be even worse at strengthening our squad. FFFFFSSS. Glad you got the point. XX Taff
Jog on
I’d have him.
Suits our game style better than Chelsea and Spurs. Work rate is top level and can play across the front giving us options and cover.
We need someone to play left to get Kudus in the middle.
Errrrrrrr he is 29 the same age as Wissa at Brentford who will be available in the summer but the club not interested because of his age? mmmmm something does not add up.
We need reinforcements on the left so I don’t see the issue with a 8.5m punt. Maybe he can link up with our other German international?
His experience in the Premiership is woeful!
Swerve at all costs as Werner doesn’t know where the net is and his best position is LW and Summerville is better than him so a waste of money.
Not as a No 1 striker but as a backup (providing wages are reasonable) , didn’t play regularly mainly sub at Spurs, wasn’t terrible.
Perhaps getting him for £5-6m might not be a bad option.
Getting onto a different subject Can any body on this site confirm whether or not we finally signed the boy from Celtic All went quiet
The signing of Timo Werner doesn’t excite me – but who would have been excited by the signing of Chris Woods when he couldn’t get a game at Newcastle and was already over 30?
Noooooooooooooooooo!
