It is getting difficult to see beyond the Lucas Paquetá loan deal to Aston Villa headlines just now. Sunday morning with less than 48 hours until the window slides shut and there late drama even concerning the Nottingham Forest fixture which is in danger of becoming overshadowed by discussions surrounding West Ham’s ‘he’s staying‘ pronouncement.

Away from the tug of love over West Ham’s playmaker, continued reports suggest the want away Nayef Aguerd will be released from his obvious Hammers purgatory and sold. Which nobody will lose any sleep over: Especially if Sunday’s “The Sun” newspaper is correct in picking up where we left off yesterday in linking the Hammers with a ‘firm approach’ for a deadline day move for England u21 defender Charlie Cresswell.

£13 million demanded from Toulouse for the now-23 year old would be a brilliant addition to West Ham’s back line and a long term upgrade on the almost 30 year-old Moroccan who has in truth never delivered on his promise after damaging an ankle in his first friendly.

Aguerd’s Hammers epitaph will be a bit like every one of my old school reports: Great potential but should have tried harder: Never delivered on his promise.

With the prospect of a deadline-day move for Cresswell very possible at a decent, affordable figure, the Hammers, regardless of the ‘Brazilian’ bigger picture, could be finishing the window with a morale-boosting signing.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Without a pacier forward who are our new quicker CMs going to pass to? Also the only way you could understand letting Pac go is if a suitable replacement was lined up or we will have no creativity in Midfield even if Pac hadn’t been at his best.

Cresswell will get slaughtered in the Prem. No pace!!

The “offer” from Villa is not an offer its a loan fee!If Paqueta goes we have no time to get anyone else in.As was said previously,Villa would not play ball over Duran,so why should we submit to their wishes. He has to stay.

  • Sue says:

Yes to Cresswell and Gallagher but not Sterling he is past his best and his wage demand is far to high now
If we could keep Paqueta it would be good
Still in desperate need of a striker unless we are going to play Marshall or Cummings when fit
Am feeling a bit better with the signings so far but don’t waste money on Sterling

We will raise the team’s morale even more if we sell Lucas Paquetá and buy Harvey Elliott with the money. Then the window can be considered successful. And if we also manage to exchange Naif Agererd for John Rowe from Marseille, then this will be a super transfer window and with such a team it will be possible to win any Premier League match.

  • Whitey says:

I do love Paq’s, but with limited impact offensively in recent years, coupled with his continued folding under a challenge in search of a foul makes the pain of losing him bearable. The fact he’s considering a move after being stood beside, and paid, for let’s face it, an extremely suspicious accusation, is disappointing. Yet, Six months ago we feared we would get nothing for him following a ban, now we can rebuild somewhat.

A couple more signings, and we could be dreaming of mid table.

  • Willsy says:

If they want the lad Cresswell why wait till deadline day and then tell us we tried but run out of time

  • Mick Bering says:

If Parqeta goes Everything else we do is a farce A Villa were looking after there interest playing hardball with duran We should be doing the same That’s the difference between the clubs at the moment they look after there own WE DONT

Martin I’m 60 years old and I think this is the most miserable I have felt about my life as a West Ham United supporter. I don’t think I felt this betrayed even when we sold off our assets after finishing 3rd and getting relegated a couple of years after.

“The day is darkest before the dawn” – 2-1 win against Forest this afternoon and you’l be smiling again. Keep the Hammers faith

    • Jeff says:

Never mind Paul. I’m 64 and have had 4 more years than you of Westham gloom. 🤷‍♂️. Seems a long time ago since I saw Big Clyde power a header past Peter Bonetti in my 1st Visit to Upton Park. ⚒️
