Not much shocks me in this game anymore!

But I have to admit that the Hammers backing a £5 million golden handshake to Richard Scudamore at a time of the year when most of our charitable thoughts are turning towards those who have nothing, is a pretty rubbish scenario.

I’ve been following Sean’s reports on this from a distance having given myself two or three nights away but from wherever you are sitting this really does make rubbish reading.

How on earth can anybody justify pay a bloke who has been earning a reported £900k a year another £5m for organise the Premier League.

It’s a bit like deciding that at the end of a contract when a player decides to call it a day or move on via a free transfer we have a whip round for him.

And that the co chairman David Gold should tell reporters seeking their view that it sounds like they may be trying to cause trouble by questioning it is really a bit strong.

There are so many worthy causes which need help at this time of the year and for me, to be handing over this sort of dough to a bloke who has thousands and thousands is totally hideous.

Right, just had to get that of my chest.

  1. Gold and the other idiot’s backing this golden handshake should be ashamed of themselves they make me sick ..I’ll say AGAIN that money could save a little girl’s life ..

  2. Supposedly it is for consultancy services over the next 3 years and the payment is split over that period, not a one off payment and no more work is done.
It also includes a no compete clause (pretty standard in this area) which means that Scudamore can’t join a rival (La Liga/Bundesliga?) organisation.

Scudamore brought a lot of money into the premier league, for better or worse, and made a lot of clubs and players very rich.
Obviously it would be great if he could donate some of this fee to Isla’s fight but it is also not just a golden handshake retirement bonus

    • I’d be interested to see where the information you mention is actually said to be the case

    • What ever way you put it an iron just stop mate because in the end they lead a privilege life.. hard work or not at the end of the day it’s a fuc!!!!g game
And that poor girl needs money for her treAtment all the big words mean nothing, way it up mate ….life of a little girl or football rubbish .. Would you back this if it was your daughter ….not just that but the money could of been sorted a long time ago by just one p!ayer weekly wage ..
I’m angry about this one especially when it comes to these brave kids .
The money wasted by players and clubs could sort at least this one problem in an instant.. …

  3. Gold once again completely out of touch with fans’ feelings.

It’s an obscene gesture by the Clubs and shows they value £’s over anything else.

  4. Nope Scudamore has more than earnt £250k for the premier league and subsequently for Sullivan and gold so West Ham should be paying him 250k plus also matching the £250k into the kitty of the Isla fund.

  5. Can’t see how anyone thinks giving the bloke a golden goodbye of £5m is remotely sensible. Sure, he’s done a good job, but he’s been paid a huge amount for doing so – and to be honest, it wasn’t that hard to sell the EPL as a product.

For once, I’m well out of step with the Board, who I usually find get a hard time from misquotes and media inaccuracies. But this time DG has spoken personally and I just can’t see the wisdom, sense or morality in it.

  6. If I charged Gold 2 grand to paint his house and it came out well, would he give me a 10 grand bonus?

  7. If by ‘it came out well’ you mean your paint job earned him an extra £1 million on the sale of his house, then ‘yes’ he may well be inclined to give you a bonus. Rightly or wrongly, EPL club owners merely want to express their gratitude to a man they believe made them all sh*t loads of money!

    • Yeah he has done so well pau why dont we the fans have a whip round for him to …ffs

      • My guess is it’s because most fans are not multi-millionaires and that Scudamore hasn’t made any money for the fans, only for the club owners. While that has had something of a trickle-down effect allowing more scope for buying players (not that you should mention that at St James’ Park), I’m not sure that would be sufficient motivation for most fans.
