This Iron is ready-made to replace Tomkins

|

oxfordReece Oxford is ready for the big step up to Premier League football this season.

And ClaretandHugh has learned that the 17 year old’s progress was a factor behind the decision to allow James Tomkins to make his £10 million move across London to Crystal Palace.

Oxford received rave reviews after the match against Domzale on Thursday evening when he produced a display far in advance of his years.

And a top insider at the club told us a few minutes ago: ” Reece has developed over the summer, has been away with England and looks what we have always believed him to be – a player of huge potential.

“It#s obviously down to the manager but it will be a shock too many if he isn’t a regular first team squad member who will get his cnace at the back this season.

“There’s no question his progress was a factor in the decision to let James Tomkins go. We are very excited by the potential in the lad.”

Great news, think he has it all, I see him as a CB but if we need a player to fill in at RB, he could easily do it, he is that good

It will be nice to see him more involved this campaign,he really could be a smashing player for us.Without seeing the day to day stuff we as fans really are blind to how players are viewed by the management. It would appear that with both the young Reeces about to compliment the regular defensive players then Tomkins was well down the pecking order.I have no problem with that.To be honest I wasnt too fussed when we sold him.

I thought he was absolutely brilliant on Thursday. If he had played in the first leg we would not have lost that game. He did not lose a header, his passing was exemplary and his positioning perfect throughout. I would play him ahead of Reid and certainly ahead of Collins. If Slav does not use him this season we will lose him. Trust in youth Slav!

Like Kenny I think he was excellent against Domizale, I thought he played really well past year, he made a slight mistake against Lukaku then never got a look in which was very unlucky, hopefully it has made him more hungry to succeed! He should definitely get more game time hopefully as first choice n the Europa matches, as a right CB he is better than Reid so it should be between him and Collins for that slot. I would also like to see Burke play a few games or if not go on loan to a championship team like Newcastle someone that will be competing for the title anyway, looking forward to the game tomorrow COYI!!!
