Many West Ham fans have been quick to share their thoughts following this morning’s story that Luis Guilherme is likely to leave on loan in January.
The general consensus seems to be that the young Brazilian winger — still only 19 — hasn’t been given a fair chance at the London Stadium. Quite why that is remains unclear, but neither Julen Lopetegui, Graham Potter, nor Nuno Espirito Santo have handed the former Palmeiras prospect a proper opportunity.
Perhaps there’s something we don’t see on the training pitch, but it’s clear to most supporters that the winger has natural talent and raw potential.
From my perspective, the decision to loan Guilherme out feels more like a reflection of West Ham’s inability to secure a transfer fee than any genuine long-term planning or player development strategy. That said, it certainly is a bit odd to invest £20m in one of South America’s hottest talents without any idea how to integrate him.
However, a temporary move to the Championship could be exactly what he needs — and plenty of Claret & Hugh readers agree.
Fans React to Guilherme Loan News
Benny Boy Baker:
“He has never been given a chance to prove himself. I believe he could become a top striker if given the chance. Letting him go on loan gives the club a chance to see what he can do — and if he succeeds, we could have a top player on our hands. I wouldn’t write him off just yet.”
Sue:
“Great shame. From what I’ve seen of him, he hasn’t been given a fair chance. He’s still young, in a different country, and needs time. We should only loan him for a short period and bring him back if he shows promise with regular games.”
Morty:
“I’d loan him to a Championship club for six months. I still think there’s a player in there.”

I would loan him to a top Spanish or Portuguese team, have him playing at a club at the highest domestic level rather than the championship where too many clubs don’t give loanees a chance.
If he can do it at a club in the top flight his transfer value will be higher.
You just know that if we sell him, within a couple of years he will be amazing. Every top team will want him and pay top dollar for him.
It would be unfair to use him this season with the self inflicted wounds of the summer transfer fiasco leading to a season that will only be about survival and one that this player does not need and the pressure of IMO…Loan him out as many suggest but loan him to a club who will play him.
Training ground or odd cameo roles doesn’t prove anything.
Needs to be in the mix of actually playing with match day atmosphere.
There’s something a miss with this situation as he performed well in pre season matches.
So well that there was much speculation he would be a regular with main squad.
Shouldn’t be competing with Summerville as that’s not ever going to happen.
His forte has been recognised as mid attack but being somebody whose willing to play any position tends to get moved around.
Having versatility is great asset but it can also work against you as you don’t get stable recognition.
As he’s classed a home grown player why doesn’t he get to play in U21 matches?
Big mistake to let him go without exploring his talents.
To be fair 3 managers now have had a look at him irrespective of what you think of them and none seem to think he has got it
I agree, a championship club would be the best move for him, Bristol City seems to do well with youngsters, same as Coventry
He should have replaced summerville instead of walker-peters in my opinion.
