These can be exciting times at West Ham United. It feels as if a new coach’s slightly scattergun selections of the first games are about to settle down into a more structured, less ‘whac-a-mole’ knee-jerk picks. After two months of the Premier League campaign, Lopetegui must know his best eleven now.
The progress of one rising star who joined in the summer has been highlighted in The Athletic (nytimes.com) today entitled ‘How Crysencio Summerville became Premier League ready: ‘He’s grown from a skinny teenager into a man’.
Roshane Thomas maps out the young Dutchman’s progress both before and since joining The Hammers.
I’d noticed how he’s got bulked under the shirt (waved around his head after the Manchester United goal) – shortish he may be, small or skinny he is not. Looks like a lot of dedication has gone into his gym sessions this summer.
The Athletic report quotes former coach Claudio Braga who worked with Summerville at Dutch side Dordrecht in the 2018-19 season. “West Ham fans are going to love him. He can do extraordinary things, that’s what makes him unique. Opposition defenders will hate marking him. Give him the ball, it doesn’t matter if there are two or three opponents, he will find a way to get past them. He is on the path to becoming a world-class talent.”
And of his development :”He’s grown from a skinny teenager into a man and a top player. Even when there are moments he’s not in the game, his mind is always thinking of how to find space. Top teams have this kind of player “.
Clearly Lopetegui needs to start him and give him the opportunity to relax, develop and grow his confidence as a regular starter alongside Bowen, Kudus (played centrally – please) and a striker.
Kudus’ three game suspension can be the catalyst – the start of the progression at West Ham. Amen to that.
Let’s see if going forward, and in the interests of peace and harmony, Lopetegui can find it within himself to be a little more encouraging rather than dictatorial to Mohammed Kudus. Playing him centrally with Summerville and Bowen either side would certainly be a start.
I think Hammers fans already love him or at least it’s getting that way. What we really want is to see him play 90 minutes every week to get a real chance.
Hal needs to start getting things right on the pitch so far it’s been a complete farce and I don’t see him making any headway in taking us to the next level it’s a shame that our owners don’t have the foresight that Man Utd have they had given ten hag time but he was sacked for not getting things right on the pitch and we should have done the same to JL but no we will plod along until it’s to late all because Sullivan is too pigheaded to admit he has got it wrong and that could be and most likely will be us trying desperately not to end up going down to the championship
The game against Man Utd just echoed the Chelsea and Spurs games for me. Extremely fortunate to get any points at all and we could’ve been below Everton.
I’ve got no confidence JL, but we need to get at least 4 points from the next two fixtures. This could buy him a bit more time.
If we lose to Everton at home then it will only confirm he is a dead man walking.
Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed or are always the eternal pessimist?
lol
🤣🤣🤣
I think realist would be more accurate.
The only ‘knee-jerks’ I’ve noticed are the plethora of blogs questioning our coach!
When it comes good, and it will, helpings of humble pie will be made available.
LOL
I wish I had your optimism and I will happily eat that pie……if and it’s a big IF that happens!
Still think the next 2 games are critical to build that confidence.
IF it comes good, I will happily take the first slice.
…and you’ve lost all your full-stops 🤪
that reply was for “obviousullivanrant” bennyboy
I really hope JL knows his best team and is not the Spanish Erik Ten Hag 🥺
