This is not the time for us Irons to beat ourselves up

By Hughie Southon

Well it wasn’t as bad as it might have been but that’s about the best you can say!

Manchester City – to state the very obvious – are entirely different class, among the best three or four teams in world football so let’s not beat ourselves up.

Having said that it took a penalty created by Haaland’s speed and some shoddy defending for the secondĀ  for them to put it across us and there were moments when we looked quite decent notably ahead of the second goal.

Our ratings from Dave don’t tell the full story and personally – against a strike force such as City’s – a word for Ben Johnson in central defence wouldn’t be out of place. The guy is becoming a very important member of the squad.

I very much liked the look of Gianluca Scamacca following his second half appearance as a sub but Tomas Soucek continues to look like a player with things on his mind – his body language is not good.

A creative spark is seriously missing and following his cameo in the last pre-season when setting up Jarrod Bowen I seriously hope we see Conor Coventry given some minutes before long.

Next Sunday at the City Ground in Nottingham we are likely to learn much more and given the fixtures that follow this is a game we very much need to win.

  1. I’m really happy it was only 2 goals against us as haaland wow what a striker. City are the best team in the world and have subs that would walk into any side including Liverpool Chelsea and arsenal let alone us. Best coach in the world too and no ego but I see that once we start feeding scamacca he will become one of the best around . He was feeding off scraps today but showed even half fit as moyes said he was that his class. Getting rid of Cresswell and getting in that left back a must as Forden and others cruised by him and once cornet starts we will have a nice three of him scamacca and bowen which will cause most other teams problems, but might as well give city the title now even spuds who will probably finish second won’t dislodge that city side and subs to die for .

  2. I can say for sure we need another 3 players minimum

  3. Would say imho we need many more than three Hammers in the Blood, maybe by selling Benrahma, Diop and Vlasic we will free up enough money to buy that quality, I am still unsure how we haven’t recruited a left back (Cornet is not one) Cresswell is now looking like Noble, maybe like Noble he will come back again at the moment he is a liability. Agree Hugh we shouldn’t beat ourselves up, for the first time I can remember the teams body language looked like defeated players when they went down where under Moyes we have had a reputation to keep going until the final minutes, we need to regain that, a few wins will help so hopefully we can get them in the coming weeks COYI !!!

  4. Shout out for Coufal also, he did pretty well and looked more like the player we bought.
