So here we were with an injury list extending to some of the best players we’ve seen at the club in many a long year and what does Slav do?
He leaves a highly expensive loanee on the bench preferring instead to opt for defensive solidarity rather than risk the sort of mistakes we suffered in what may soon be known as the ‘Jenkinson era.’
For further injuries apart it’s already difficult to see how the bloke will be able to find his way back into the side particularly with Tomkins having said in an interview that he is “learning the job.”
I must admit that I was more than a little surprised when I looked at the line up. I’d almost taken it for granted that with Winston out, JT would slot in alongside Ogbonna and that the Gooner would be back in the team.
That instead, Slav chose to bring in Ginge – fourth choice defender after all – particularly after his sending off, was a big one to me and spoke volumes.
It seems you don’t want to blot your copybook with this manager. There’s no easy way back into his teams and although JT gives us nothing in an attacking sense it’s notable that we have kept two clean sheets with him in the right back role.
Looks to me as though he’s possibly being groomed into the job permanently thus leaving a £40k a week player, on a £2m loan fee, out in the cold.
Slaven Bilic never moans about anything much, nor it seems does he pay much attention to reputations from previous seasons.
Maybe I’m reading too much into this but I reckon Arsene Wenger’s £15 million right back’s day may be done at Upton Park.
Pretty much !!!
But he will keep him until the seasons end !! Be it for backup and the loan contract !!!
For me as I said the other day , ginge was the best choice for this game , we needed steel to cope with the physical side of stoke and IMO he called it correct !!!
Jenks new deal has secured his wages for 5 more years and has lost that hunger he showed last year, he doesn’t have to prove anything and he certainly isn’t IMO going to break a leg for west ham ? How can a player become average to poor overnight !!!
The answer is he doesn’t have west ham in his blood , he is a gooner !!
With a new 5 year contract at 40 grand a week !
15 mill will be reduced to 3 / 4 mill unless he has a reality check and Wenger will not be happy . Before he knows it he will be on the books of Sunderland in a lower div or other !!!!
Silly boy !!!! Needs to buck his ideas up or fade into mediocrity !!!
Having said that Bilic will probably man manage him at turn him into a asset !!
Only time will tell us that one !!!
Yes, you can’t argue with that – Jenkinson has been poor so far this Season and to be left out today is a real slap in the face from Bilic.
I don’t know about Jenkinson, he’s obviously athletic and can really cover the ground but his confidence is completely shot, he seems slow of thought and hesitant, often turning to play a back pass when under no real pressure The couple of balls-ups he’s made seem to have destroyed his confidence, the crowd get on to him and it’s a vicious circle. He’s going to have to toughen up and win back his pace.
Tomkins is not a full-back, he hasn’t got the legs or ball skills required – he’s just about getting away with it, but only barely. Right-back is a problem position at the moment!
Agreed, JT is a stop gap,at right back, we will have to find a new one next season,.
We Do however have Reece Burke who played in that position in the Europa matches, he may be able to claim the spot next season.
theres a couple at Burnley and Leeds it could be wotrh looking at
Most fans were dubious after last season when he was at fault for many goals,he can be used as a backup defender the same as Ginge just a bit expensive,
But it’s important that Tomks come on as a RB or we buy in the summer,Johnson was a central defender when first at our club in fact when we sold Rio as fans we were told he was the brilliant CH that was going to take his place,
Clubs have made bigger mistakes buying players in the past lucky we only loaned,
Let’s hope Antonio who played with promise today is the natural replacement for Moses his attacking play only lacked goals and the final ball, but his defending and effort already is better than Moses,
Great to see with Jenkinson on the bench our team with 5 normal first team starters missing
Play with so much promise
Also great to be entertained again even if we did not win unlike Man U or Sunderland fans
Pity no one listened to some of us on here during the summer, it was quite obvious last season he was not a premier league full back. IMO I believe we have a cracking RB at the club in young Oxford. Again no one seems to be listening to this. But BUBS I agree its been to be entertained again and fair play to Slaven for leaving Jenks on the bench. I would also leave Carroll on the bench and I would seriously consider offloading him in January and replace him with the style of CF we need, pace and power.
Totally agree John. Why Oxford can’t get game time is beyond me especially with the vultures circling for his services?? I have said for ages that I hope McLaren or Allardyce come for A.C In January. Not the lad’s fault mind you but the game plan has changed under Bilic.
Totally agree John.In Carroll’s defence he didn’t get much service and there were goals to get if the forwards got in behind him but didn’t. Exception was Antonio on one occasion.Hoping still that Newcastle or Sunderland come for A.C in January.
