Sullivan – Steidten Spat Has Huge Hammers Consequences

From todays headlines there are still plenty who think that there is an active shortlist to replace Julen Lopetegui in the West Ham United hot seat. A quick scroll around the usual sites reveals Terzic, Marco Silva, Graham Potter, Tomas Frank – all apparently ‘ready to step in if asked’.

You have to ask yourself – would you really see any manager or head coach step away from an existing job within a top tier of football to come to West Ham United? The club is in crisis and I can give you three reasons that immediately spring to mind why any coach with an existing job would steer well clear:

  • There is an obvious spat between Sullivan and Steidten. Toxic atmospheres don’t bode well for coaches. One doesn’t know if the other is about to jump ship for Arsenal.
  • The Money’s all gone: West Ham profess to have blown the transfer budget for this season and for PSR there is nothing to spend unless players are sold. Who wants to inherit a Lopetegui/Steidten hybrid squad with its huge deficiencies in midfield and up-front?
  • The club’s ‘superstar’ is facing a lifetime ban from the sport at the end of a long troubling FA enquiry which can embroil the club in further legal twists and turns if an appeal is needed. The only creative midfielder already lost his form – how would West Ham cope if he lost his livelihood too?

Add into the equation that David Sullivan ‘does not pay compensation’ to other clubs for their managers. So 100% rule out a head coach working at present. Amorim was turned down because he had no Premier League experience so bear that in mind too as you read the headlines professing to know who’s ‘on standby’.

Quite clearly any candidate  for the job – even if it be in January or February next year in time for the ‘relegation battle’ if Lopetegui doesn’t get his act together –will need to be an out of work coach with Premier League experience with absolutely nothing to lose. Hardly a set of qualifications likely to bring a top-calibre replacement: Even then you’d question the sanity of those that do consider coming to a currently pretty toxic West Ham United .

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

what i don’t understand is why is the board waiting, we are not going to get anything in the next 2 games without Kudus, that will take us into December sitting either in or just outside the bottom 3, its the start now of a 2 week break, grow a pair say you have made a mistake with this Spanish plonker and get rid, there are so many better options not working and ready to come in tomorrow, they would then have 2 weeks to get their feet under the table and try and win back the dressing room and improve us.

  • Brendan says:

Sullivan should be first out as he is not a football man. Lop is clueless, just look at team selection ongoing, it’s shambolic. Steidten is the only one performing despite errors.
Can someone please buy the club and clear the decks

Didn’t think this site could get any worse
But I’m massively mistaken if it wasn’t for gonzo I doubt anyone would read this pitifal site.
The writers for this site (bar gonzo) are laughable.

Old Mr Kretinsky the man who wanted Steidten in the first place and the man who interviewed Lopetegui for the job seems to get away with an awful lot doesn’t he going about his business quietly in the background while Sullivan gets all the blame for everything. (Only when the teams not winning though)

    • Matt says:

Only when the team is not winning… so mostly from January up to now then unfortunately.

Kretinsky made a very astute decision hiring Tim.
It’s one of the more progressive moves we have made as a club. It seemed to indicate that we would change and become more like Brighton & Aston Villa (Recruitment & Manager signings).

We still can change in a positive direction, both manager wise and up the league.

Palace ditched Ron De Boer after only 6 games having witnessed a similar lack of improvement and team cohesion.

I still remain optimistic we can get out of this mess if we act now, but only if it is a manager aligned with Tim.

We never hear much about Villa’s ambitions owners as the focus is on Emery & Monchi who work well together.

      It’s not 🚀 science.

LOSE THE LOSER . Lopetegui must go as the root of most of the problems . He couldn’t even manage a World Cup winning team , Spain and only lasted 14 league games with Real Madrid . A decent coach will get a squad playing well in 3 to 5 games , end of story . Steidten shouldn’t have bought Guilherme or Fulkrug for different reasons but that’s what a good chairman is supposed to oversee and veto if necessary . Sullivan made several mistakes in wasting money on those two signings instead of throwing 50 million at Duran and paying for the best manager possible instead of the cheapest .

Let’s get one thing right Lopetegui had a fantastic record as Spain manager. He was unbeaten in his two years as Spain boss. Julen Lopetegui served as Spain’s national team manager from 2016 to 2018, guiding the team through a successful period before the 2018 World Cup. His record with Spain was impressive.
Under Lopetegui, Spain remained unbeaten, showcasing a solid defense and dynamic style of play. His tenure was cut short, however, when he was dismissed just before the World Cup due to announcing his move to Real Madrid without prior communication with the Spanish Football Federation.

        Let’s get another thing straight.

AC Milan fans didn’t want him and neither did our fans.

There was no other club in for him. We made a massive mistake as he was far too similar in style to Moyes, Allardyce and Benitez.

  • Bryno says:

STOP it now. Don’t drag this blog into the gutter with some of the worst comments by so-called fans who only thrive on negativity. Yes the club is in a difficult situation. But that calls for real fans to restrain their darkest instincts and show some respect and offer constructive criticism.

    • Matt says:

Sensationalism to the extreme again with this complete and utter waste of a news article!

Stop trying to take snippets of fans frustrations and hashing it in to some mindless putrid poison!

    • Everyone says:

      Respectfully, GTFO Bryno.

Sully is the ultimate problem, pay attention. This manager, who claims to have studied the club so he would understand how to get the best out of them, is clueless. No amount of time can correct these fatal flaws.

      That is all.

  • Bill Ryan says:

Apparently there’s a meeting with Sullivan and steidten to see whether lopetegui is up to it the results and performances tell you that, steidten is going nowhere since he was brought in by kretinsky himself

    • Matt says:

The anti Tim propaganda is mainly from pro Moyes sources or tabloids trying to make drama and run the story / much like links to Arsenal.

Tim has got a much higher chance of staying where he is and to say who would want to manage us is ridiculous.

We look shocking on the pitch due to JLo. However, we are not bottom and adrift. Kudus will be sold for big money in the summer. Soler is only on a loan, Rodriguez was a free transfer so there will be money to invest next summer.

We have good enough players to easily move quickly up the table. Forget Paqueta and banging on about negatives relating to him.

It won’t be hard to get the fans on the side of a talented progressive coach that can easily turnaround our season.

    • Matt says:

If C&H have a “top source” within the club, it’s fair to say that information goes both ways!

It’s naive to think Sully isn’t getting feedback from C&H via this source whoever that maybe.

I’ve said it before, but I genuinely believe this time Sully could surprise us all. By that I think we could be heading for a big change in a completely different direction.

Once we switch manager we move back up the league, players regain confidence and we will see a massive improvement in our style of play!

  • Alan says:

    In Rafa we trust…

Sullivan’s known to be a fan. He ticks all the boxes.

It would be absolutely spitting in the face of all the fans. But when has that ever stopped him?

All we can hope is that someone half decent loses their job or quits in the near future.

    • Matt says:

Employing Rafa would be a huge error!

Even Sully knows the fans would go 🦇💩 crazy if he rocked up!

Surely he lets Tim pick the manager and if it goes wrong he can blame Tim later down the line and have a get out of jail free card?!

      • Jellied Eel says:

Why would Sullivan bother? He gets the blame whatever happens.

        • Everyone else says:

          Jellied Eel,

The owner deserves the blame when he can’t keep his stubby fingers out of the pie. If his input warranted praise he would receive praise. Sullivan has hired Steidten to do the job, stay out of his way. If Steidten fails to provide adequate results then appropriate action must be taken. But the meddling, the constant meddling brings a target on his back that he appears to enjoy as he can’t avoid the spotlight. Let us not be bothered by the blame Sully receives, he has earned it.

        • Matt says:

If you ultimately have power and make the decisions then Sully is the one who takes the heat.

You only have to see his record with the managers we’ve had during his tenure.

Tim and Kretinsky were not at West Ham when the majority were appointed.

        • Alan says:

He can always sell the club if he feels hard done by?

          • Matt says:

But then he wouldn’t be on TV with his reality TV missus in his awesome Korean dictator hat 🤣🤣🤣
