Three Degrees of Separation as Duran Fate Could Decide Ferguson Future

Just when you thought the transfer window couldn’t get any more complicated, familiar foes Aston Villa have stood up and said, “Hold my beer.”

It seems long-time Hammers target Jhon Duran could hold the key to whether the club signs Evan Ferguson. Confused? You should be.

Because it now transpires that Duran is actually for sale and, as luck would have it, his price is precisely what West Ham bid—£57m. That is the fee being quoted to Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.

Duran has reportedly agreed personal terms with Al Nassr. However, the Saudi Pro League side are not quite as keen and may prefer Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface instead.

If Boniface moves to the Middle East, Leverkusen would replace him with Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, thus scuppering the deal for the Irish forward to join West Ham.

Therefore—if I’ve read this situation correctly—if the Hammers want to sign Ferguson, we’ll be cheerleading for someone else to sign the striker we originally wanted in the first place.

You couldn’t make it up

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

  • Terry says:

Not a lot of mention about Santiago Giménez of Feyenord, scored 45 in 73 games, scores in the CL, 6ft & 23 years old, why aren’t we seriously looking at him?

Great shout Terry I’ve posted several times saying we should be going for him. Bagged 2 goals against Bayern Munich in the Champions League aand AC Milan had an offer of €30 million turned down earlier in the window. Now expected to go back in with an improved package of €35 million but that’s still short of Feyenord’s €40 million valuation. Would be a brilliant signing if we move quickly.

Not sure where you got the £57 million figure which Al-Nassr have been quoted Gonzo. David Ornstein from The Athletic has tweeted that “ Duran is due for a medical tomorrow €77 million + add ons agreed in principal & 5.5 year contract in place.” ( £64 million + add ons)

Interestingly he also states Arsenal made an approach for Ollie Watkins on Monday which was quickly rebuffed. They are tipped to make an increased bid before Monday’s transfer deadline. Fabrizio Romano also speaking on his YouTube channel said that Arsenal had enquired about Duran but made no bid. Could all change as Duran is on the bench for the CL game against Celtic tonight.

  • Joke club says:

We are so bad at transfers 🤣🤣. Either uo your bid for our dream target Duran, or bid £45m for Boniface!? Just see we are selling Guilermhe for £12m after signing him for £25m 4 months ago 🤣🤣🤣. Man we are hopeless

  • D says:

Just hope Potter’s, Ferguson doesn’t turn out to be Moyes’s Fellani.
We need to trust his judgement

  • ? says:

He’s going to al nassir for 60 million euros plus bonuses. I are durans real earnings from the Saudis hidden within the bonuses? Or does this prove that Aston Villa did not want to sell Duran to a rival premier league club?

  • mark wiggins says:

We can’t put all the eggs in the basket for Ferguson , surely we can’t leave it to deadline day due to time issues . We need to make a decision now and get the box to box midfielder just make your minds up now

  • Phil Baker says:

Clearly , Aston Villa don’t want to sell Duran to a potential competitor , Westham . Boniface has not been linked with Westham in this window , however a good thought . Ferguson seems like a sick note with all his troubles and so NO . Brobbey is injured on average 2 months every season and so a cheap loan with no obligation to buy might work . NO panic buys please , Westham already have a bunch of duds and broken donkeys to some how dump in the summer.

  • Ivor Soreanus says:

We won’t get any of them and we will end up with the cheap option which is Andre Silva…come on its Sullivan pulling pulling the strings here

  • Jeeps says:

If he’s available, out of the three, Boniface looks best option.
Potter is all for Ferguson but his past reputation is what’s making him a leading contestant.
Duran’s attitude could easily upset continuity in team that Potters looking to achieve.
Not first time Boniface has been linked with whu_age / ready to go / scoring / powerful has all assets that are needed.
Would be nice to call Emery’s bluff and leave Duran at Villa causing more unrest in a 3-way pool of strikers.
