Three predictions on Villa v Hammers

Mark Lawrenson and Michael Owen have come up with different results as the Hammers go into the match against Villa on Monday night.

Lawrenson – not entirely surprisingly – goes for a Villa win despite all the form figures pointing to an Irons success at Villa Park whilst Owen- who doesn’t gives a scoreline – reckons we will “nick it.”

And in joining the fun ClaretandHugh believes that with confidence high following three straight wins and a top performance against Norwich last time out, the Irons can expect to pick up a draw at the very least but plumps for a 1-0 victory.

Seb Haller’s form is such right now that nobody would rule out goals from the striker whilst Felipe Anderson is overdue one given his excellent form.

Lawrenson though clearly isn’t sure the Hammers can maintain their winning run, instead claiming he can see plenty of promising signs from the team.

He writes in his BBC website column: “Aston Villa have only got three points to show from their first four games, but I have seen plenty of encouraging signs from Dean Smith’s side. They are still settling down, but I think he has bought some very talented players over the summer.

Villa will also be angry after they were denied an equaliser against Crystal Palace last time out for what was judged to be a dive by Jack Grealish.

That is an example of how, with a little bit more luck, they would have picked up more points.

West Ham are improving too, and are unbeaten since the opening day, with new signing Sebastien Haller getting among the goals.

This one will be close, but I am going to go with Villa to make their home advantage count.

  1. As always with Lawrenson “West Ham have been fabulous recently; their opponents are pretty poor, so I think West Ham will lose”.

    Sigh.

  2. Mr Lawrence continues to be predictable in his scores. 2-1 west ham victory
