Slaven Bilic spoke of his pride at watching his West Ham side beat Premier League champions today.
But he admitted his players need to ‘change their mentality’ when having an advantage against sides like Chelsea.
The Croatian also praised Andy Carroll’s contribution after coming off the bench to score the winner.
Speaking after a fabulous victory he declared: “[I am] very proud of my team. Brilliant to win against the champions. A win at our home ground in front of our own crowd. It’s unbelievable. We deserved to win today.”
He continued: “The first half we played really good [but in the] second half we started exactly opposite that we wanted to. There were two reasons from my point of view. We have to change and it’s a slow process. We need to change our mentality. We can’t just defend for 45 minutes and give them the ball.
“The crowd was [also] expecting us because Chelsea were a man down. Chelsea are class when it comes to keeping the ball. They were keeping the ball very well.”
Bilic also felt the two ‘major incidents’ in the game, Matic’s sending off and Fabregas’ disallowed goal, were correct.
“For me, the first [yellow for Matic] was clear. The second one I was too far [but] it looked like a yellow.”
As for the disallowed goal, he said he has watched it after the full time whistle but added: “Nobody can say he was on or off. When we freeze the picture, you can’t be sure. He looked more off than on.”
Bilic continued: “Chelsea scored at a great time for us because it meant we had enough time to wake up a bit to go again. Put pressure on them and limit them to counter attacks and long balls.”

    Spot on again Slav,
This team can go all the way if they start believing in themselves,
The fans are there now,we know this team together can go all the way,
Make the other sides respect us,
    Show no fear and believe
All the top players will want to come to us and play and we don’t need them because we are a great side now,
Not lucky we out played Chelski,
They had a max of 20 mins when we were under siege

Some of them still have the remnanats of the ‘Respect The Point’ philosophy swirling around their minds.Slav is doing a good job ridding them of it,but after 4 yrs some are finding it hard to shift 😉
