I reported interest in one of Turkish side Galatasaray’s younger players earlier in the summer. Having watched several sources claim today that both he and his agent have been back in London for talks with West Ham United and Liverpool, a search reveals this report has been tracked down to Turkish Outlet fotospor.com.

It would appear that 24 year old (yes, just 24) Baris Alper Yilmaz has been the subject of renewed interest following his strong showing in Turkey’s run to the quarter finals in Euro ’24.

Initially I discounted the interest as just another name – since he is a right winger and this wouldn’t be a priority for the Hammers. However further investigation reveals he has played across the front line and could be integrated beautifully into a Lopetegui team fluid at the front with an interchanging front three.

Although he signed a contract extension just a year ago he is thought to be unhappy with his paltry earnings by Premier League standards: Hence his agent looking to drum up interest in a move. He has apparently been seen in London post-Euros and has been brushing up his English although quite how that rumour gets corroborated- I don’t know unless I get to meet him and ask him what he thinks of East London.

An estimated £20 million price tag makes him attainable, his age is certainly a better profile for a Steidten / Lopetegu itarget and his personal terms compared with someone like Wan Bissaka would be pretty straightforward. An outside bet, I’d say, but watch to see if more is heard of young Baris in the coming days. With news coming earlier of the bid to Leeds for Crysencio Summerville,  it fits that West Ham are showing they won’t be held to ransom by one club for one player and so -‘scuse the pun- there are several irons in the fire.
