West Ham technical director Tim Steidten to leave club
Tim Steidten’s closest allies are reportedly unhappy with how the director of football’s role has been portrayed to West Ham fans.
As Claret & Hugh revealed yesterday morning, Steidten had gradually been stripped of responsibilities and side-lined at the club. It is now being reported, as C&H previously relayed, that player recruitment has shifted to Kyle Macaulay, with Steidten preparing to leave officially.
This process reportedly began as early as October due to concerns over the German’s transfer activity. Steidten has rarely been seen at West Ham’s Rush Green training ground for the past fortnight.
However, sources close to Steidten claim some transfer failings attributed to the outgoing director of football were not his choices. C&H was told last night, “Tim has been incorrectly labelled at West Ham—he only ever got his first-choice players twice.”
The source continued: “He wanted Kudus and Todibo, that’s it. Everyone else was second or third choice. It was Tim who wanted Jhon Duran initially, and he pushed hard to get Fofana from Monaco. He was never listened to on replacing Moyes or Lopetegui.”
There is a growing sentiment that Steidten has been unfairly labelled a troublemaker. However, the former Leverkusen man reportedly knew his time was up when Graham Potter arrived at the club.
As ever, there are two sides to every story and there are many at the club who have a very different version of events. Whichever side of the argument one chooses to believe, it is clear that the circus is back in town at very much in fully swing.
It is tough being a WHU fan when they keep behaving in such a disorganised and unprofessional way. I’ve been getting told Tim was a messiah pearl diver who would revitalise our club, focus on youth and bring in future superstars. Now I’m being told he’s a **** diver who only ever got 2 players. Which of these is true? I guess if Tim goes elsewhere and builds an amazing team for another side we’ll know the truth and everyone will moan that we let him go.
All you can say is that it’s classic West Ham and as long as Sullivan and Brady remain at the club, the pantomime will carry on.
The more I read from Gonzo and Treasure, the better I understand why they were told to be careful what they wished for.
Don’t pretend you aren’t part of that circus. Running every blatent Steidten hit piece up the flag pole so Sullivan can make his tinpot power grab.
Hope you’re happy.
We’ll probably never know the full story, and I’m sure there’s enough blame to go around for everyone. We’ve mostly done very poor transfer business for years. By the same token, I thought the whole point of the new set up was to have a long list of strong alternative options…i.e. a second, third, or fourth choice shouldn’t be a poor substitute.
Potter is going to fail whilst the cretin owns this club. Why do we treat people so bad, zero class at the club.
The ring master Sullivan is working his dark magic around the clown car that is Westham . Sullivan hired LOSEpetegui which doomed all hope for any squad in the world signed by anyone . The dagger plunged through Westham’s heart by Sullivan was not signing Duran for 45 million and so forcing Steidten to dumpster dive for Fulkrug .
He was technical director not football director and if our nasty cheap little chairman had actually let him do the job he was hired to do, things may have been different. If you hire someone to recruit personnel then let the head coach get players and you get a player too then obviously, the whole set up is a joke. But that does sum up how West Ham are run with this silly little man forever interfering in every aspect of the club. I wish he would go and never come back.
He’ll have no problem being employed at a club with better prospects than we have says it all.
Long live Hookey Street much to the fans detriment.
He was directly responsible for Fullkrug, Guilherme and Mavrapanos. In any other line of work he would have been handed his p45 for the signing of Mavrapanos alone. The other 2 would have bought a gross negligence claim against him!! The signing of fullkrug alone makes my blood boil and for that reason alone, I won’t lose any sleep over this news…
West Ham were quoted on football websites as preparing a summer bid for Mavrapanos as early as April 2022 and Steiden did not join until 1st July 2023 meaning he was a Sullivan or Moyes choice. Fulkrug was a forced buy after Sullivan meddled and scuppered the Duran deal. Guilherme was also linked with us before Steiden joined.
“In any other line of work” Well,in any other line of work you wouldn’t be signing footballers would you? 🙄
He was not a DOF. And backed up by this article. He was a Technical Director with little contol on who we sign just a acout and negotiatoron some deals
Sullivan preventing modernisation as usual. Back to the model we had with Pellegrini and Husilos, Potter and Macaulay will soon find out how Sullivan controls things and prevents progress.
My season ticket goes with Stiedten wont be back sorry Tim the way you have been treated After 60 years you are no longer the club I grew with W Ham un united
Well said Mick and I won’t be renewing either. Just watched Nobes’ farewell Boleyn speech and his tribute to the back room staff and the family of fans at the club. “ This club ain’t run like a circus anymore” love to know his thoughts now.
He’s part of the circus. His grovelling to Sullivan knows no bounds. The Boleyn speech and the rugby tackle on his own fans (who were protesting about Sullivan’s deceitful lies concerning the stadium move) were Noble showing the dwarf what a loyal little servant he is. Can’t risk losing his job for life.
Mr West Ham my arse!
For once an article that rings of the truth and spot on regarding the signings. Rodriquez and Kilman were Lopi (although tbf we were linked with Kilman under Moyes so Sullivan obviously involved here). Same with Wan Bissaka. Sullivan claimed Summerville early and Fulkrug who knows, but was clearly a forced buy after Sullivan meddled in Duran dealings. Just because Steiden negotiated with some of these players doesn’t mean he was the one that identified/wanted to sign them.
West Ham will regret getting rid of him and MacCaulay is a significant downgrade who Sullivan will no doubt use as a scapegoat once his meddling fails yet again.
The need for Tim expired when we ran out of investment funds. Nothing to do with loyalty or taking sides. Bye bye Tim. Thanks for your efforts to now but we have no more money available for storage projects. West Ham United are a football team and not a financial experiment.
“Allows” being West Ham fans and anyone with football knowledge
