Time running out for Tah deal

Reports linking Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah with West Ham are the latest – if not entirely new – development on possible incomings to the club.

Claret and Hugh have learnt that the speculation has legs and the first approached the German club four weeks ago with a loan offer.

The 24-year-old, who has a €40 million (£36.5m) release clause, could potentially make the switch to the London Stadium on an initial loan deal with an option to buy but Bayer Leverkusen are yet to give their answer.

After slipping down the pecking order at BayArena during last season, Tah has watched Leverkusen’s two first games of the new season from the bench.

The centre-back has been with Bayer since 2015, having signed for the club from Hamburger SV for 7.5 million euros. The Germany international’s current deal expires in 2023.

Last season, Tah  provided one assist in 39 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.

He has has earned nine senior caps for the Germany national team but has yet to score on the international stage .

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Leicester City who are also in the market for a centre-back before the transfer window closes.
