Time to ditch the league cup

Now the dust has settled from our latest humiliation at the hands of a dictionary I have come to the conclusion that the only way forward is to ditch the league cup all together to avoid future embarrassment.

We do have to ask how seriously do Premier League take the Carabo cup?

France have already ditched their second cup competition and with a new European competition on the way you have to ask what is the future for the competition?

TV broadcasters didn’t show live coverage of the cup game and even contractual restrictions stopped the internet from streaming audio coverage so it is hardly endearing to the fans to get behind the  Milk cup if they can’t see it ot hear it.

Maybe it is time to exclude Premier League clubs from the League cup, at least it would put a stop to the Hammers annual humiliation and let us concentrate on winning the league and the FA Cup 😉

  1. You omitted providing the nucleus of England’s World Cup winners of 2022 Sean 😁
Seriously, it is a domestic trophy we have not won and it does provide the winners with a ticket into Europe.
Unless the David’s sell out to a Sheikh – or the good Lord answers my prayers – we are not going to win the PL so the options for European football are limited.
Who of us would not choose a winning day out at Wembley?

  2. There was no stream available, BBC Oxford streamed coverage was stopped due to broadcasting restrictions and the game was already well underway before I realised it was on Radio London. It looks like even the EFL are trying to keep interest in their competition to a minimum as they must be embarrassed by it.
It is a great competition for the lower leagues and grounds superstar millionaires.

  3. I don’t think the cup is the problem, its the club or managers attitude to it that is the problem, why don’t they take it seriously is the question ? Is it because there is so much money on the PL clubs won’t take a chance on it ? For fans or me certainly, If we had won the cup we would have a very different view of it. League and FA cup always used to be highlights to attend or watch on tv, amazing atmospheres and for lower league clubs that is still the case as Oxford demonstrated and numerous others in recent seasons. Imho the money is the problem and not that on offer to the winners but that on offer in the PL or European competitions the game is all about business and some of the passion and desire has gone as a result. Keep the cup’s but if clubs play weakened teams fine them.

  4. Or change the rules for premership teams.why not say that players have to make at least 3 or 4 appearances in the rounds .so like for example man city arsenal .Liverpool and Chelsea have used kids, squad players but then soon as the semis and finals come around they play all the big name players.which is a kick in the bo##cks to the players that got them there

  5. How about some perspective…

This competition has run for the best part of 60 years and we have never won it. The FA Cup almost 150 years and we’ve won it three times. Thats 3 times in 200+ attempts, or once every seventy.

Yet, every time we go out of a cup, especially to a lesser team, everyone acts as though we would otherwise have won it. Well we wouldn’t have. For that reason I’m kinda glad we’re focusing on the league as we have opportunity this year.

Embarrassing and shameful result? Yes. Has it cost us a trophy – Almost definitely NOT!

  6. Lower league clubs rely on these competitions to survive, remember bury. It was a disgrace by the team against Oxford. They should give there games income to charity.
