Antonio facing ban after latest incident raises questions

Reports have emerged that former West Ham striker Michail Antonio is facing a driving ban after failing to tell police who was driving his car when it was clocked speeding in April 2025.

Antonio already has six points on his licence for having no insurance at the time of his horror crash in Epping Forest in December 2024—a crash he was fortunate to walk away from. That incident effectively ended his top-flight career and resulted in his West Ham contract not being renewed.

Troubling pattern of incidents continues

It was not the first time the Jamaica international has been involved in a motor incident, having previously crashed his Lamborghini.

On that occasion—and you genuinely couldn’t make it up—he was on his way back from a fancy dress party when he crashed through a residential garden wall while dressed as a snowman.

Difficult questions despite West Ham legacy

Let me be clear: I love Antonio and am hugely grateful for everything West Ham’s record Premier League goalscorer did for the club.

But it does feel like losing his licence might not be the worst outcome here, because you do have to question whether lessons have been learned from that near-miss in Epping Forest.

At the time, the focus was understandably on his injuries, but the reality was he was driving a powerful vehicle without insurance and lost control. Had that car hit a pedestrian rather than a tree, the consequences could have been far more serious.

Latest report raises further concern

So to now hear he has failed to cooperate with police over a car registered to him being caught speeding again is concerning.

As I say, I wish Antonio all the best. I’ve met him, interviewed him, and he comes across as a genuinely lovely bloke.

But based on this latest development, it’s fair to ask whether the roads might be safer without him behind the wheel.

They should throw the book at him. I can not stand anyone who drives without insurance. And especially someone who is as poor a driver as he obviously is a prison sentence should be more apt. It’s one thing mangling yourself driving like a fool but what if it was an old person or kid he had hit and with no insurance. Shame on him.

This is a strange story – if Mikey wasn’t driving then his misdemeanor was not informing the traffic police who was – perhaps he has a reason for not wanting to do so – without more information I feel it is harsh to condemn him

I never understood the constant outpouring of love for Antonio after his second reckless accident. While I never wished him anything other than a speedy recovery, but it was a situation created by his own idiotic and reckless behaviour, and his sense of entitlement that followed left a sour taste.

Paid more per week than most earn in a year but no insurance. I agree Gonzo he has no place on the road…

Poor decision making from a rich man , That happens a lot , however there must be consequences for actions that may kill himself or others . He should have owned up to the speeding ticket and so ban him , it may save his life .

He’s a knob. Can’t stand the bloke as he loves to play the victim. Anyone earning the money he has for the last time should have insurance, there is no excuse. He also whined and winged when we wouldn’t give him a new contract and he still hasn’t signed for anyone else so proved he’s finished as a top class player.

If he does it again lock him up!
