Claret & Hugh understands that Jean-Clair Todibo has returned to France today, possibly to have his injury assessed by specialists.

The defender was forced off injured during West Ham’s 4-1 defeat against Manchester City last week.

“We don’t know exactly the nature of his injury just yet,” Lopetegui revealed at the time. “We have to assess him tomorrow, but I am not very optimistic with him.”

The French defender appeared to be in decent form despite many of his teammates struggling in the defeat at The Etihad and his injury looked innocuous at the time.

Todibo is not expected to feature in this week’s FA Cup clash against Aston Villa. Given the current turmoil at West Ham, he might be better off out of it for now.

Despite reports suggesting a dressing room row with head coach Julen Lopetegui, it is understood this played no role in Todibo’s trip to France.

Sources indicate that Todibo and Lopetegui have resolved their differences, and this development is simply an injury update with no underlying drama behind the scenes.
