West Ham’s £35m signing Jean-Clair Todibo is ready to feature against Brentford on Saturday, much to Graham Potter’s relief.

The Hammers boss revealed the French central defender and former Barcelona player is performing well in training and could play a part at the London Stadium this weekend.

“He might not be quite ready to start, but we think he’ll make the squad,” said Potter during his pre-match press conference, which was beset by technical difficulties.

Potter has struggled with a makeshift defence recently, relying on full-backs and the error-prone Konstantinos Mavropanos partnering Max Kilman in a back three.

Kilman has performed admirably, but Todibo’s mobility and defensive ability should improve the entire unit. I have a suspicion that Aaron Wan Bissaka will be drafted in to play at RCB at points in the future but with Crysencio Summerville out for another 6 weeks, AWB will have to continue at wing back.

Potter appeared confident as he addressed the media, bolstered by the fitness of Paqueta, Alvarez, and Bowen, alongside new signings Ferguson and Ward-Prowse, giving him a strong squad at last.

I’m worried against Brentford as defensively we’re still not as solid as we would like to be so having Todibo as only a possibility will be a concern just got to hope Ferguson bangs in a debut hatrick and that’s enough
