West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen impressed as a second-half substitute in England’s 5-0 World Cup qualifier win over Serbia.
For much of the game it looked like the Hammers winger wouldn’t get his chance, especially after Noni Madueke scored the goal of the night.
But Bowen was introduced late in the second half and immediately looked sharp, linking play with clever one-touch football. His movement and determination to pass and move stood out, and he was unlucky not to register an assist.
Drifting over to the left-hand side, Bowen demanded the ball before cutting into the box and whipping in a venomous cross for Ollie Watkins. The Aston Villa striker tapped home, but the goal was ruled offside.
Whether this cameo will sway England boss Thomas Tuchel remains to be seen, but Bowen certainly didn’t harm his chances of a place in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad.
Other standout performers on the night included Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson, who have given Tuchel a welcome selection headache when the squad is fully fit.
As for the West Ham captain. he was a menace and if he keeps performing for the Hammers he’ll have given the England boss warning that he must be in the World Cup squad.
Bowen also provides defensive cover on that right side, in which Saka doesn’t. I’ve noticed that in games where England have been under the cosh, when Bowen is brought on England seem to be more balanced in defence.
How the hell does Madueke get in front of Bowen?
Lol…I know why…..BIASED towards the “So called big six” which does not exist
Bowen’s stats compare well with Saka’s at Arsenal, yet when Saka is out his Arsenal reserve gets a game for England ahead of Jarrod. Too much bias towards the media “big teams”
I totally agree Morty, if it’s goals and assists Tuchel wants then Bowen provides both as well as having displayed his nerve in a European final
