Tomkins set for exit – the fans react

James Tomkins is set for a move across the capital to join Palace and his former boss Alan Pardew.

Tomkins has been with the Irons since he was a kid and had Mark Noble not been around, would have become ‘Mr WestHam.’

Here’s how ClaretandHugh Facebook Group members have responded to his seemingly imminent departure @ https://www.facebook.com/groups/363174467150521/

O Pity really. I have a soft spot for him as one of our homegrown players. Still think he has a place for rotation during Europa League but if he wants first team football, all the best to him – at least he’s going to one of the more likeable clubs in London.

O It’s a shame as I too have always loved Tommo, one of our own and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Always thought he could be a future leader at CB buthe never came on that extra step. Unfortunate really as he played really well at RB last year when needed. Good luck too him
O Hugely disappointing if this goes through.

O Would have to disagree – he’s been a great servant but plenty of errors and not the greatest passer of a football – we can do better.
O Ogbonna is total rubbish

O If it means that Burke is given his chance then I can see the logic as he looks a real prospect. It’s not I don’t rate Tomkins and I wish him all the best but for me it makes total sense to give Burke his chance which I hope he takes.

O Bad decision. Our homegrown player. English player. Reliable player. I want him to stay, but if he goes.. good luck Tommo!

  1. Short and sweet ! To many mistakes = exit , enter next accadamy player to try his luck .
Good luck tommo , but man u in the cup done me, amateurish attempt at a tackle cost us big time . I don’t think it went unnoticed by Bilic !
Not heard a Bilic comment yet ?

  2. Still think Slav will bring in another Right footed CH to play alongside Ogbonna and RB probably with the money Tomo brings in,
Looks like we won’t spend the big money on a forward with the ones worth that sort of money gone or staying put,
Gomez and Van Persie would make sense with AC and Fletcher,Browne and Martinez all only going to need 1-2 years,
Still looks great compared with our team 2 years ago,
I am not sure about Reid either as a future regular and would sell if we got offered good money,

  3. Not good enough for top 6 club . Too many basic mistakes but thanks for trying …

  4. As many have said has been a loyal servant to the club certainly good enough for the PL but if we want to really push on then we need better quality, will be a shame to see him go and can wish him all the best except when playing against us.

  5. Keep Tomkins a decent player and what happens – Burke goes probably followed by Oxford.

Old timers can think back to when Bobby Moore got his debut. Many thought Malcolm Allison would play but the club seeing the longer view played Moore. We can’t afford to make the same mistakes as BFS did and block the way for young players.

  6. Gutted if he does go, and hope he comes back and scores against us!

  7. What a stupid comment Boleyn Boy.You think you know better than Bilic & hope he scores against us.So we lose 1-0 to CP,Tomkins scores the winner & you will be happy we lost.Ok!!!
