West Ham are listening to offers for James Tomkins but should they?
The club has turned down two bids of £8 million and £9 million so far with insiders telling ClaretandHugh Slav is ready to let him go as he is unhappy with being on the bench.
CandH Facebook members at https://www.facebook.com/groups/363174467150521/ have been giving their views on the situation. Here’s some comments.
O IMO he’s been a good servant to the club and a proper Hammer, so on a personal note, I will be sorry to see him go.
O Unless we are bringing in a very good defender….don’t see the sense in letting him go
O Maybe Burke will step into the team this year. still hoping we can sign up Lacazette. Really see him being the difference this season
O Would take £9m for him – that would get us a better defender.
O In this market, you aren’t replacing him for £10m. He was a rock at RB. Don’t think we leaked a goal while he was there. Ginger isn’t playing forever, and Burke or Oxford aren’t ready yet.
O Reid can be injury prone and Ogbonna might be needed at left back at some point unless super Cresswell can manage all 60 potential games. With injuries and suspensions we’ll definitely need Tomkins.
O I don’t want him sold but if he must be then they can double that offer
O 27 year old English starting calibre Prem CB on a long term contract. £15m minimum.
O Please No
O Don’t want West Ham to lose it’s identity home grown players is what we having always been about
O Would take 9 million for him
O Will be a real shame, but if Bilic sells I believe he will buy another CB that he believes is of the quality of Ogbonna. I guess it’s the right thing to do, just sad because he is one of our local boys
OLet’s not let sentiment get in the way here, otherwise we’d have a team with Freddie Sears up front.
O Agreed we have to let the gaffer make these decisions . Slav knows best !! COYI!
O Nine million seems a good result to me.
O I would hate to see Tonks go. I think we need him for squad depth considering Europe this year. I will always feel strongly about Tonks as I believe he has been a good servant and he’s home grown.
O I think Tomkins has done well out of us, and we’ve had good service from him. never really let us down, while never really setting the world on fire. £8m-9m does sound like good business and, for me, it has the added bonus of not having to watch him play right-back for us!
