TOO LATE AGAIN? West Ham Miss Out on Midfield Target After Two-Year Pursuit

According to reports from Italy, West Ham have fluffed their lines yet again in the transfer market—this time missing out on midfielder Yunus Musah after a two-year pursuit.

The story, first published by Calciomercato.com, suggests the Hammers entered the bidding far too late, allowing Napoli to swoop in and complete personal terms for the 23-year-old USA international. Whether the report is entirely accurate remains to be seen, but it has the all-too-familiar whiff of a classic West Ham blunder.

Musah—formerly of Arsenal’s academy and most recently at AC Milan—was a long-standing target identified during Tim Steidten’s early days at the club. The energetic, dynamic midfielder was seen as a much-needed injection of pace and drive in a West Ham side often accused of being flat-footed and lacking urgency.

The Hammers were first linked with Musah during his impressive spell at Valencia, with multiple reports (including our own at C&H) confirming scouting trips and firm interest. So if we’ve genuinely lost out because we moved too slowly, there’s simply no excuse.

Once again, fans are left wondering whether we’re asleep at the wheel while other clubs are already getting business done. Whether this is idle Italian speculation or a painful truth, one thing’s for sure: West Ham cannot afford to be left behind this summer.

Until deals are actually completed, the concerns will keep growing. And so will the frustration.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender šŸ˜¬āš’ļø Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

mmmm not too sure about this article , a lad already playing in Italy for a club that as far as I am aware hasn’t qualified for a european competition gets a choice between going to the Italian champions who will be playing in the champions league next season or , West Ham ! I don’t think it honestly mattered what time we got there , just in my own considered opinion of course

I’d forgotten all about him, didn’t think West Ham were interested.
    But hey, silly season?
Isn’t he the 378th player linked so far?

We never do any business until they all come back from their holidays I don’t know why anyone would expect anything different.

We are just waiting for our targets to turn 30. Then we snap them up

now that’s a plan! all sorted. That’s what we needed; something different to give us an edge in the transfer market 😊

As a club we seem to be be approaching this Summer in a standard manner. If exclusive reports are to be taken at face value, questions remain as to who we want, which markets we will delve into and meantime, the club is as if standing behind the market stall waiting for customers to come to us, when they will clearly make us wait.

Work should take place before any official dates. I would imagine a pre-agreement with a club on Kudus for example. Cut price reduction up front as close to 85M as possible, but an agreement date early in the window would be part of negotiations taking place in April/May/June. That way a sale occurs early on. Clubs want Kudus, he is a world class player, or soon will be and one poor season under poor management will not change that. He is a very saleable asset who wants to leave and it would have been a perfect opportunity to work everything out in advance behind closed doors.

If reports are correct, we seem unable to change our approach when circumstances demand a bit of invention and a different upfront approach, knowing the problems that are coming our way. The only instance of what I am talking about is Daniel Cummings.

Am not griping, complaining, am just amazed and puzzled – kind of my perpetual state of mind when reading reports on WHU at the moment. We seem to be acting like 12-year olds.

Sorry to go on, but same with Aguerd – what is there that we do not already know? If you accept cannot keep Aguerd if he wants to leave, without also undermining team spirit, etc., then take the decision now. Whether Graham Potter likes him is irrelevant, simply because we cannot afford such niceties and it will never work. Anyhow, he was struggling already at WHU – heart’s not in it.

Also, this way you do not waste precious time during pre-season but concentrate on drilling the team and youngsters who want to be at WHU next season.

Asleep at the wheel Gonzo? Haven’t you heard they are all on holiday!

Not surprising is it Its the norm now

  • Hammeroo says:

I think somebody said Graham Potter was back in town. But is David Sullivan asleep at the wheel of a superyacht or is he safely back on dry land and now busy on the job?

    • Bill Ryan says:

Asleep at the wheel RIP van winkle is always asleep at the wheel until the last week of the window then he’s on the phone to his agent mates asking who they got left its like groundhog day nothing changes
