A top agent has told Claret & Hugh this evening that West Ham have no chance of getting £84m from Manchester United for Mateus Fernandes.

The Hammers midfielder, who missed an absolute sitter against Arsenal on Sunday, has attracted attention from multiple big clubs.

And none more so than Manchester United, whose caretaker boss Michael Carrick is reported to be very keen to sign the newly-capped Portuguese midfielder in the summer.

Reports yesterday appeared to indicate that a price of £84m would be demanded by West Ham, but when Claret & Hugh attempted to speak to a London Stadium source earlier today, they refused to comment.

Agent Dismisses Fernandes Price Tag

However, later on, we did manage to speak to a top agent who has negotiated several deals for both Manchester United and West Ham in the past, and he informed us that:

“£84m for Fernandes? West Ham have got no chance. He’s a good player but not at that money.”

Earlier today, James Corden gave a glowing assessment of Fernandes, calling him an “extraordinary footballer”.

West Ham Determined To Keep Fernandes

West Ham paid £40m to Southampton for the 21-year-old in the summer and the club would obviously be looking to make a profit on that.

But it is understood that should West Ham retain their Premier League status, they will do everything possible to hold on to the midfield star, who looks destined for a massive future in the game.

He is a rarity as a midfielder, as he both defends very well and is quick to seize chances to play forwards in. Not easy to get the ball off him either, he is consistent and plays for the team through & through. How does he do it!?

If NES is able to play only 2 midfielders with Soucek, it is because of how good Fernandes is + Soucek’s discipline & experience. Both never give up either.

Keep him for 1 season if we get relegated and don’t come back up, it’s the least he could do.
Should have scored against Arsenal but he’s a very good player and at 21 I don’t see him needing to go to a big club yet to sit on the bench. I feel if Nuno stays a few players w give us a season.
Anyway let’s go and beat Newcastle ⚒️⚒️

We should tell Man Utd, if you want him put your money where your mouth is or shut up
