One time Hammers hero Dimitri Payet has been criticised for piling on the pounds during his time at Marseille!
The ex-Hammers star returned to France in 2017.
He has been a key member of the squad ever since, and he has made a total of 220 appearances for the club.
This season, though, he seems to be struggling.
Working under former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, he has scored once in Ligue 1 in five appearances, but was sent off against Lyon and was suspended for their two most recent games.
In the Champions League, Marseille have yet to win, and were thumped 3-0 by Porto last time out, with Payet missing a penalty.
And former goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta has pulled no punches in his assessment of Payet’s form, while also insisting that he is simply too heavy to be in top shape.
Quoted by Get French Football News, he said: “I was watching it via video with my son who is in the AS Monaco youth academy, and I felt his disappointment when Dimitri (Payet) missed the penalty. It hurt me.
The worst thing is when you see the youngsters disappointed when certain players who have lost 3-0 are still smiling. It makes me want to throw punches… And then, when you are a professional, it is not normal to weigh 100kg (15.7 stone, in old money), that is the equivalent of not loving your club.”
The attacking midfielder has changed his haircut, and does appear somewhat stockier than he was when he was wowing fans in east London but this does feel like a rather personal attack on the former Iron.
