Top Irons subs don’t get a sniff in Carabao caper

Soucek unused

I’ve got to be honest, the Carabao Cup has never truly interested me.

Regardless of that, however, I do like to see my club play football on every possible occasion particularly after they have won 4-0 a couple of days earlier against a usually very good team.

Tonight, however, I am entirely confused. I looked at the team and then the bench before the game and noted the likes of Arthur and Soucek were in the squad with Declan on the pitch.

“Ah, we’re gonna have a go” I think and when Anderson started to do an impersonation of a fourth rate rate ballet dancer without a clue  and Yarmolenko showed he’d reached his level against Hull, I thought: ‘ere we go then – Arf and Tom time with a slice of Jarrod action given Yarmo’s. useless yearnings!’

Arfur…no sign of him

But no, it was nobody’s time – the rest of ’em including Bowen, Fornals and Oggy sat there watching on at a Carabao caper which we simply didn’t seem to care whether we won or not.

Why on earth would you take such decent players up to Merseyside on a Wednesday evening if you aren’t gonna use them if and when things go wrong?

Sorry I just don’t get it but then I am getting on a bit so maybe that’s the explanation.

But it seems to me that unless we produce a very good performance at Leicester this weekend none of this rather odd planning will have meant very much at all.

I’ll forgive Moyes for now – he is self isolating after all and may not be feeling 100 per cent but it all remained a bit more than weird!

  1. You couldn’t be more wrong. Arthur Masuaku was not on the subs bench even.

  2. Perhaps it’s because the players have finally twigged what the majority of fans are now feeling; ie, football without the stadiums full of singing, chanting crowds, is simply not worth playing. I’ve supported this team for over 50 years, but I really am beginning to feel like the whole thing should be halted, until that blond idiot in charge is over-thrown and sanity returns to this country.

  3. Everton supporters’ ‘Dithering Dave’ tag seems to be a fair reflection. This sub thing is getting ridiculous now, he is showing an inability to impact anything during the game, and it’s every game now.

Last night, he effectively gave up by not changing things at either 2-1 or 3-1.

Some people were saying he was right to not sub versus Arsenal because early-mid second half we were dominating – but Arteta started changing things from the 64th minute, and we didn’t respond for 20 minutes, losing the game to a goal scored by an Arsenal sub.

He seems to be onto something with his set up in recent premier games. But, if the game is close at 60-70 minutes, I cant see us winning many unless he learns some in-game management.
