Sky Sports top transfer in the know – Darmesh Sheth – has revealed that the Hammers should have their first signing completed this week. The player in question is none other than Manchester City’s flying winger Carlos Borges. City’s top academy graduate was believed to have been approached last week, however negotiations had stalled.
This will hopefully come as a relief, considering some of the quotes attributed to a top club source. Within the past few days Claret & Hugh was informed that ‘not everyone’ on the Hammers transfer committee was behind the deal. Considering the paucity of transfer activity, Sheth’s comments should come as a welcome boost.

Hammers first signing of the season is expected to be Carlos Borges from Manchester City according to Darmesh Sheth
Borges has enjoyed a remarkable season in Premier League 2 , but only has one year remaining on his contract. He is also believed to be frustrated at his lack of first team opportunities for the treble winners. As a result West Ham have tried to steal a march on Brighton Hove Albion, who also covet the player.
Speaking to givemesport this afternoon Sheth reported: “Regarding Carlos Borges, we understand that one is agreed in principle now for around £14million. Manchester City will do what they always do when they sell players. They always do it on their terms, so there will be some form of sell-on, matching or a buyback clause. All of that will be involved in whatever contract Borges signs for West Ham United.”
If the buyback clause is consistent with Manchester City’s usual transfer strategy, the sum could be £40m.
I believe the fans and probably the squad itself would benefit from the uplift of a new arrival at the club.
Pathetic from the majority shareholder to the manager.
