The stats people at Capology have just released the West Ham wage bill for the 2023/24 season.

And here they are with one major surprise:

10 Thilo Keher – £80,000 per week

9 Michail Antonio -£85,000 per week

8 Mohammed Kudus -£90,000 per week

7 Emerson Palmieri – £95,000 a week

6 Edson Alvarez – £100,000 a week

5 James Ward-Prowse – £115,000 a week

4 Alphonse Areola – £120,000 a week

3 Kurt Zouma – £125,000 a week

2 Danny Ings – £125,000 a week

1 Lucas Paqueta – £150,000 a week

But come on! Danny Ings on £125 k per week?

So based on his earned wages since his move in January and the resultant transfer fee, he has cost the club around £9.5m per goal.

It again demonstrates most forcibly that the summer window is the place to get things absolutely right. It’s hard to remember any winter signings who literally pulled up trees after the move to the club.

But regardless of that £125,000 when the team captain Kurt Zouma finds himself on the same demands the question: What’s going on?
