Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to outbid Roma in the pursuit of West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville.
The Dutchman was selected for Holland’s World Cup squad despite ending the season in fairly average form, and that international call-up probably ended any lingering hope West Ham had of keeping hold of him in the Championship.
Roma had previously looked favourites to land Summerville this summer, but Dutch media are now reporting serious interest from Tottenham, who of course already snatched Mohammed Kudus from the London Stadium earlier this season.
Dutch outlet VI.nl reported:
“Tottenham Hotspur managed to stay in the top flight is also relevant. Last winter, the Londoners already tried to pry Summerville away from West Ham, but ultimately no definitive agreement was reached.
“Now it seems that Spurs are going to make another attempt. If that happens, Roma appears to find themselves in a difficult position, as the allure of the Premier League is ultimately very powerful.”
Premier League Pull Could Decide Transfer
The general feeling seems to be that Premier League status would outweigh anything Serie A currently has to offer, and despite the rivalry between West Ham and Tottenham, Spurs probably does feel like a fairly realistic destination.
As Matt mentioned in his earlier piece, some of the reports linking Summerville with clubs such as Arsenal and Barcelona always felt a little fanciful.
That’s not to say the winger didn’t have excellent moments during the season because there was definitely a spell where almost everything he touched seemed to turn to gold.
But his form tailed off badly during the final run-in as West Ham drifted towards relegation and, in particular, his end product became increasingly erratic.
More conjecture here from me!
I was baffled by the velocity of Mags performance against us recently, in my mind I was certain that they wouldn’t get out of second gear with not much to play for.
That they blew us away and along with Villa gifting N17 three precious points, which ultimately did for us.
Now Mags are looking for a left sided inverted forward what with Flash Gordon on his way to sunny Spain.
Makes me think that, there’s the reason for the recent onslaught. To lure Jimmy away!
Sell for £60m to Spurs? Good business. Sell to Roma for £40m? Petty business, but still acceptable. I’ve got no real dog in this fight for another 14 months anyway. Anything less and we have been mugged off.
He’s a good player. He’s not Messi or Neymar. He’s more Saint-Maximin: electric on his day, but how often is that day actually here?
I just hope someone sensible is handling these negotiations. Either maximise the value of these players properly, or keep them and let the board bail the club out. There are a couple of billionaires sitting there surely they can find a £100m float to get things back where they belong.
The women’s team or the other ventures must be worth “purchasing” if the books need balancing. Maybe they’ll conveniently announce City’s points reduction and save us that way.
Or maybe they’ll hold off until next year and keep protecting the endless Middle East money pouring into the FA’s coffers. The whole thing is crooked.
It will be a pity if we lose him. However he does seem injury prone – and the physical nature of the PL won’t help that. And Spurs seem to have inherited the Chadwell Heath injury curse. Whenever multiple clubs are interested in our players we should recognize that as a positive. The transfers we don’t want are the single club low ball bids where the player has ‘set his heart’ on joining, Arsenal, Spurs, ManU, Flamenco etc.
Will Sully never learn?
Why would we deal with the Spuds?
Gonzo, if we sell it has to be for a profit. He’s young, unproven for Premiership and now has shown what he can do. Don’t want to pay that much for him then we keep him. What about getting cash in I hear you ask. Well we all know who got us in this position, so dip your hand in your pocket and show us you really do love the club
