West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is understood to have started his training ground shake-up after his weekend outburst about a lack of intensity from the players.
We understand from sources at Rush Green that the manager, who has until now, allowed day to day training routines to be supervised by first team coach Edin Turzic and his No 2 Nicola Jurcevic took a far more hands-on role today.
One source told ClaretandHugh: “The manager himself seems to have adopted the role of defensive coach and has been working in that area. It may become long term and was the first noticeable change in things.”
The manager’s day had began with a post-Arsenal match phone call which was described to us by David Sullivan as longer than usual “because we are both very worried about things.”
CandH exclusively revealed yesterday that many inside the club were waiting for changes on the training ground and that appeared to have started this today.
As a superb defender himself during his playing days, it makes great sense for the manager to double up as the club’s training ground defensive guru.
I saw Gary Baily last year at a roadshow and he said when he went back to the Man U training ground a few year back he met up with AF. AF was just standinfg around watching the guys train. GB asked Fergie why he did not get further involved and his reply was that he had the best coaches/trainers in England working with him and that his job is to watch the guys, check the body language and see who is happy ( putting in a shift) and also who seemed a bit off. If they were off he would call them in and find out whats the story was,and why they not putting in the effort. That is called man management, however if we have second rate coaches and a manager that is either distant or does not have the respect of the players then it is time for a change.
Why is he only getting involved now? I recon we need a big shakedown at Rush Green and get some experience premier league guys in, not just your mates.
Sorry, but too little too late. I find it totally negligent on Bilic’s part, given our form this season, that he has remained away from the day to day training and is not good enough. I see he has refused the offer of assistance from Rio, someone who is a winner and for me was a far better defender than Bilic. Don’t think he has the luxury of refusing such an offer if he wants to keep his job. I see nothing that tells me he can turn it around and Jan transfer window is most definitely not the one to base a rescue plan around. I do not like changing managers mid season but I relish relegation even less.
I tend to agree, I love Slav or did…but his comments on Saturday just amaze me, he’s paid a sh&t load of money to do his job and he quite frankly hasn’t been doing it…end of…only now is he getting involved in training? seriously…
This isnt a business where you can leave your supervisors to run the day to day and just check up on things once a week. If thats is the case then unfortunately Slav only has himself to blame for taking his eye off the ball.
Re the ads. Readwestham and foreverwestham are ten times worse. Sometimes I cant even get the story to load cos there are a million adds and pop ups.
I would have thought SB would have been involved in the defensive training along time ago.
Does anyone else find the adverts on this page rather bloody annoying! Come on Hugh you must be able to find other ways to bring in the cash, at least use reputable advertisers and not this load of tosh! Had enough now and looking at other WHU sites.
Yes the third party advertisers are very annoying.
I have moaned on here about the ads before but no response form Hugh. For me the culprit seems to be NYM1-1BADN7C.com or something like that sends my laptop into a frenzy everytime…..com on Hugh get a grip with these ads,
Me to, had enough of these adverts, reluctant to come on here lately…
Of course the matches and training lack intensiity. What do you expect from a knackered bunch of walking wounded? I don’t think they would be any more intense under any other manager in the circumstances including the return of the prodigal Sam allardyce. (Be careful what you wish for). Chances are though Mr Sullivan has been greasing the palms of potential suitors including that Spanish chap Benitez he was after the last time. Meanwhile mr gold will continue to publicly back the manager and all talk of a sacking (until the end of the season) will be rightfully dismissed.
