Transfer guru confirms West Ham crazy collapsed deal

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has spoken to the Here We Go podcast about why the signing Nikola Milenkovic collapsed when it appeared to be done deal.

The 23-year old was on the verge of joining the Hammers before David Moyes pulled the plug and decided to prioritise Kurt XOuma instead.

Romano revealed  “One of the most crazy deals of this summer, because it was really done, it was really done – Nikola Milenkovic to West Ham. Then, they decided to sign Kurt Zouma weeks later, but they were more than close to Nikola Milenkovic.

“It was at [the] final stages, and West Ham changed their mind with David Moyes and the board at the last minute for Nikola Milenkovic.

“So they said, after final negotiations with the player and with his agent, they said ‘okay, no, we’re going to move on another player, thank you’. It’s really crazy how in football sometimes they can change their mind.

“West Ham wanted him, they had an agreement in place with Fiorentina. It was about the contract of the player and final details with the player, so it was about personal terms with Milenkovic and with his agent, and then the deal collapsed.”

Romano’s account matches that of what Claret and Hugh reported at the time, a deal was completed by David Sullivan with Fiorentina, after initial agent issues a deal was also struck with the player’s representatives on the agent’s commission and the player’s personal terms.

Before a medical could be arranged and papers signed David Moyes had second thoughts and instead decided Zouma would be a better fit for West Ham with his Premier League experience and Milenkovic was left in limbo and instead signed a new contract with Fiorentina.

The tale really goes to prove a transfer is never done until both sides sign on the dotted line to complete the paperwork.

In Moyes we trust!
