Like many of my fellow West Ham fans, I can become frustrated with West Ham’s inactivity in the transfer window sometimes. The club can appear to take an eternity with negotiations and bids that proceed with small increments which are rarely accepted.
However, I do believe we are about to see the club’s patience rewarded with the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Hammers’ negotiating team had a price and value in mind for the Manchester United defender and were determined not to overpay. This resulted in West Ham walking away from the deal for the player and instead placing a bid for Manchester United transfer target Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
Whilst the bid for the Moroccan defender ultimately failed, there was a level of strategic success in flushing out a firm bid from the Old Trafford club and panicing them to a certain extent. The Red Devils’ agreement to sign Mazraoui has necessitated the sale of Wan-Bissaka, which has played right into West Ham’s hands.
As if that wasn’t enough of a victory for the Hammers, the Manchester club has agreed to drop the asking price for their defender to fall more in line with West Ham’s original valuation.
As a fan, it’s a frustrating tactic and one which clearly fails more frequently than it succeeds. However, it’s a ploy being repeated throughout this transfer window and is clearly in full effect as part of the negotiation for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.
It will be interesting to see who wins out in the game of chicken between the Midlands club and West Ham. But if the Hammers can sign the Colombian striker for a deal close to the one that has just been rejected by Villa, then it will be yet another example of patience winning the day.

..are we getting him then …I mean surely they know either way…how much talking can you do
Slightly off topic but I prefer watching Championship football as there’s no VAR. Three players stood out for me, Adam Wharton who Palace snapped up, Jordan James at Birmingham and Jobe Bellingham at Sunderland. It seems to me Steidten has no interest in the domestic market (apart from other club’s rejects) but prefers to jet around the world on wild goose chase’s! Wouldn’t it be preferable to pick up the Bowen’s from lower leagues instead of over priced mercenaries! I’m sure there are potentially others capable of playing at a higher level.
Just goes to show that nobody outside the process really knows.
There’s a lot of supposition and negativity going on. Which is understandable given past experience. But let’s hold off judging TS until the window’s done. And not stress so much. COYI!
If that makes you feel Better Gonzo, do believe it. Wasn’t it you who said in the video that you screwed United by going for their target. You can’t have it both ways.
If this works out, TS has, as you suggest Gonzo, played his hand well here. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt!
…..or just trust that he and Julen know exactly what they’re doing and that they’re doing a great job.
