Claret & Hugh has this evening confirmed that West Ham are indeed in the hunt for striker Lucas Stassin.

The Hammers were first linked with the £15m-rated Saint-Étienne forward yesterday, and now sources close to the deal have confirmed that the Hammers have been in direct contact with the French club.

The 20-year-old Belgian striker was one of the standout performer in what proved to be an awful season for Saint-Étienne, who were relegated back to Ligue 2.

A reliable source in France has confirmed to Claret & Hugh that contact has been made, a fact also echoed by the player’s agent.

“He [Stassin] is the most likely of all the names I’ve seen. Most of the links are complete nonsense — everyone knows West Ham need to sell,” said a transfer source familiar with multiple West Ham deals.

The Stassin rumours are also gaining traction in the French press, further indicating that West Ham’s interest is genuine and progressing.

While the striker is not yet considered a superstar, he’s a highly regarded prospect — and his potential arrival would give Irons fans an early glimpse into the type of player being targeted by Graham Potter and Head of Recruitment Kyle Macaulay this summer.

Lucas Stassin. I do like the idea of us having an ASSASSIN in our front line as we need a striker with a killer instinct. 🥷

Thierry Henry’s favourite striker. So he’ll probably go to Arsenal. You might as well write the how we missed out and why you should all be feeling disgruntled story already in advance. Blame will go on Potter or Sully or both. Might as well prepare for the disappointment already in advance.

A bout 2 years ago we where told that we where getting to the next level we’ll clearly that didn’t happen and it looks like all the moneys are gone again one in and one out. And then anyone that we are thinking of buying we tell the world who we are going to buy. And this is the state of play as long as I can remember it, look at the freebies that’s the players that would be hot on our list
