Trott to Wimbledon

Hammers Academy goalkeeper Nathan Trott has joined AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan.

The Bermuda-born goalkeeper joined West Ham following a successful trial period in January 2016, having initially been recommended to the Club by former Hammer and fellow countryman Clyde Best.

A schoolboy midfielder, Trott is not only an agile shot-stopper, but also possesses superb distribution skills and technique.

The young goalkeeper switched international allegiance to England in early 2017 and was part of the Young Lions squad that won the UEFA European U19 Championship in June of the same year.

Following the signing of Roberto and David Martin on free transfers, it has beed decided to loan out the 20-year-old to Wimbledon who are without a main keeper to get regular games to enable him to get competitive football.  AFC Wimbledon are based in Kingston, Surrey and former Hammers coach Wally Downes now manages them.

Wally Downes told the Afc Wimbledon Website “We watched Nathan last season and he is a very talented boy, so we are delighted to have him here on loan. I got close to the West Ham loans manager and after the success we had with Aaron Ramsdale and progressing him as a keeper, they were keen for Nathan to come to us. Although there were a lot of clubs in for him, we managed to pip them to it.

“You get to see all the games now on the various media platforms and Nathan has been on my radar for quite a while. I watched Nathan play from the comfort of my own home and I went along to watch him live in a couple of reserve games at the end of last season. He is a very talented, agile, goalkeeper. Though he is young, that shouldn’t inhibit him. Bayzo brought the best out of Aaron Ramsdale and I expect him to do the same job with Nathan.”

  1. I thought you said it was just Wally Downes ‘chancing his arm’?

Very disappointing. I guess he’s not as highly rated as we thought.
