Tuchel gives Kante injury update

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that N’Golo Kante is NOT available to play West Ham on Saturday afternoon, per The Athletic.

Reports on Friday had suggested that the France international would be fit to come back into the XI after missing the games against Manchester United and Watford.

The Blues drew with the Red Devils and narrowly beat Claudio Ranieri’s side in midweek.

Tuchel confirmed at his pre-Hammers press conference that Kante is not available for him to select in his side at the London Stadium.

However, he has been boosted by a couple of notable injury returns: right-back Reece James is back in contention to start after missing the Watford game, while Italy midfielder Jorginho is also fit, along with striker Timo Werner.

Still, Tuchel is dealing with the absences of Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ben Chilwell, and Trevoh Chalobah, to his dismay.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Blues manager said: “I almost need a list. We didn’t train today with Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo (Kante), Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah. They are all out for tomorrow. Everyone else is available.

“Every player is a player too much, but that’s a lot of midfield players. It has been for many weeks with Kova and now N’Golo. And Ben Chilwell is a long one, this is what we know.

“For Trevoh we need more examinations to see how bad the injury is.”

Asked about James, Jorginho and Werner, Tuchel did clarify: “They’re available, yes. They’re training and available.”
