Deadline day wouldn’t be the same without a bit of drama. Having waited weeks for interest in some of our ‘high and dry Hammers’ who are unused, unwanted and paid to bench-sit with apparently no ambition to leave and re-start their careers, suddenly there is news of two Premier League Clubs entering the fray late for one of our perennial ‘surplus’ forwards.

According to Ryan Taylor, (Independent Sports Journo), Maxwel Cornet has two Premier League Clubs vying for his loan. On his Twitter/X feed, the journalist states:

“Exclusive: Crystal Palace are trying to hijack Southampton’s loan move for Maxwel Cornet. Talks progressing with both clubs. If both reach agreement with #WHUFC, decision rests with player.”

One of the Steidten / Lopetegui targets for an exit from the club, Maxi Cornet will need to be on his bike quickly for a medical if a deal is agreed between the clubs today: we’d be happy for him to choose either, to be honest, and take his £65,000 a week off the books at London stadium. We reported yesterday that Cornet’s Instagram post pictured the player apparently travelling with the cryptic message ‘time is key’ – so maybe he has already had his medical completed.

Intrigue for deadline day.

Whether this plus Kurt Zouma’s impending transfer would be enough to trigger the Carlos Soler deal – we will have to wait and see.
