Two-Horse Race to Replace Lopetegui at West Ham United

Conflicting reports are swirling about who is the favourite to become the next manager/head coach of West Ham United.

Julen Lopetegui has been given one final game to save his embryonic Hammers career in tomorrowā€™s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the London Stadium.

With both Lopetegui and Wolves boss Gary O’Neil reportedly close to the sack, West Ham are understood to be lining up the Spaniardā€™s replacement should the Hammers fail to win.

Some newspapers speculate that Middlesbrough manager and former Hammers midfielder Michael Carrick has moved into pole position to take over the West Ham hot seat.

However, contrasting reports suggest that former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter is in advanced talks with Irons officials and close to a deal.

Itā€™s important to note that there is no confirmation from the West Ham side feeding these rumours at present, although this doesnā€™t rule out agents drip-feeding information to the media.

That being said, it appears the contest to replace Lopetegui at West Ham has turned into a two-horse race.

It all depends on who will kiss ass & be a thankyou board man for not spending money on a recognised striker
& it will cost u millions if u sack me in the contract,

gotta say, i would love it if Sullivan sold up. done well to a point but is now our liability, but….
the number of times i see the word “midget” or “dwarf” on here (like it actually relates to his behaviour) is plainly disgusting. what it equates to is calling aomeone a “c**t” but prefacing it with the colour of their skin. grow up WH fans! šŸ˜  some of you, anyway.

and C&H would do well to call it out. just like the drive to obliterate racism, this falls under the same umbrella of tolerance

  • Phil Baker says:

Lopetegui is at war with at least half the squad and utterly clueless . Every minute that he remains at Westham progressively damages the club . A caretaker coach has always been the obvious protocol to follow ( 1 game through 24 potentially ) just to rid any club of the toxicity of a ‘ lame duck ‘ coach . Noble would be solid , honestly even the under 12’s coach would do better than Lopetegui . If Westham need time to get the right coach , then take it . NO more clown show , Kretinsky come and invoke your option and buy out Sullivan for a fresh start at Westham .

  • Smiffy says:

This is like a Whitehall farce. The board, being made up from multi millionaires makes me wonder how the main parties managed to keep themselves solvent in their other businesses, although looking at the Post Office makes you wonder.
Why has this clown been left in place for so long when itā€™s obvious that he is completely unsuitable to manage a Premier League club ?
Does Mr Sullivan have objection to paying off a prospective managerā€™s contract or does he really think that this fellow can turn things round tomorrow?
    The mind boggles !!!

  • Richard Williams says:

I would rather Mark Noble to steady the ship šŸš¢ as I feel the players would have alot of respect for him.. Then look for a serious manager to take us to the next level

  • John blake says:

Potter was not good enough for Chelsea, why is he good enough for West Ham? Sullivan the midget will go cheap, so expect ****

  • Alan says:

Not going to be Carrick is it? He’s in gainful employment. Doubt they’re going to accept a lifetime subscription to the Daily Sport as payment.

It will be Potter. But if we win tomorrow this probably gets dragged out for another 3 or 4 games at least.

  • Essexirons says:

    FFS
    Graham f*****g Potter??

Is that the best the club can come up with?

Brighton runs it’s self, I don’t think it really matter who’s head coach as long as they know the basics.

Shows real ambition by Sully, who’s got PL experience & won’t cost anything to get him here šŸ¤”

  • Sissons 64 says:

It’s such a mess , Sullivan doesn’t know what to do. Loppy stays until they find another manager then he’s sacked, are they for real.

  • Victor Kirk says:

Lies and nothing but lies come from the dwarf and his puppet journous within completely corrupt media.

  • Darkhorse says:

Carrick is a big no no. as is potter if we are to progress

    • Mark says:

Sullivan couldnā€™t pick his nose ffs šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

    • Matt says:

Both would be just another roll of the šŸŽ²

We need to show ambition, vision and a strategy and get Hoeness.

Unfortunately Sully is frugal, blind and clueless!

    • FredK says:

Couldnā€™t agree more. Just because Carrick was an ex-player and Noble likes him, that means nothing. Carrick is inexperienced at this level and still learning the ropes. Potter needs time to get the team his way and we have wasted enough time already.
My choice is Conceicao. But we will never get him because Sullivan wonā€™t pay his wages. Itā€™s always the same, cost over quality. When will the board ever learn.

  • Darkhorse says:

Carsick is a big no no. as is potter if we are to progress

  • John Harrison says:

Potter the most likely, as he’s out of a job. So Sullivan can avoid any payment. Hoeness would be a great fit for West Ham but is having another good season at Stuttgart. But can’t see Sullivan/Brady backing it. Some coup for Tim if he can pull that off.

    • Andy says:

When Tim is given full power (never) Iā€™d trust him to sell the dream. The Premiership is the best league in world football.

Most ambitious coaches want to experience and prove themselves in England.

Hoeness would have a chance to enhance his already impressive career by taking us on to the next level.

Reality is he wonā€™t join us, we will limp along with JLo until weā€™re one above the drop zone. Sullivan will finally get some other coach who is not as impressive or capable and we can repeat the process all over again.

  • Shawn Harding says:

Not Potter or Carrick. Hoeness, Allegri, Conceicao or Ireola.

    Take your pick.

  • Kenny Irons says:

This whole sorry saga needs to be put to bed – personally either of them donā€™t fill me with glee, but anyone is upgrade on Loppy, so will get my full backingā€¦.

  • Tezard says:

Carrick will cost Mobley so thatā€™s a no

    • Mark says:

But his salary wonā€™t be as high as Potter and is ā€œMark Nobleā€™sā€ choice. Perfect for the spineless clown of a chairman who can blame it on Nobes if it all goes wrong!

  • Rob says:

I would take either of them at moment, just want him gone asap. But knowing Sullivan the idiot manager will be there till Christmas as Sullivan is gutless when sacking a manager.please prove me wrong Sullivan?

    • Bennyboy baker says:

I would prefer carrick the way boro play is outstanding be over the moon if he could get that style of play with our squad he knows the club well nobles choice and noble is nobodyā€™s fool it would be a real statement of intent and also he knows how to treat people how to talk to players if there is a issue he wants to raise unlike JLo who just ends up in conflict with players JLo has no people skills whatsoever potter is a ok choice but he will take a fair bit of time to get things as he wants them and that was his downfall at Chelsea so carrick would be my number one choice and he would transform our style of play which to be honest is urgently needed

  • Whitey says:

2 horse race you say,I’d take Ed the Horse over Lopetegui any day…..he just needs to go asap

  • John Ayris says:

Potter or Carrick, neither would be my first choice of Hoeness is secondary to Lopetegui is definitely not the answer. I’d get behind either of them confidant that it would be an improvement. If either were announced on Tuesday morning I’d say welcome boss lets get weaving to where we should be.

    • Matt says:

Hoeness would be most peopleā€™s choice that have any football knowledge of his achievements at Stuttgart.

Iā€™d prefer Carrick to Potter if that is how limited our choices and strategy is.

      • John Ayris says:

It probably is. Carrick would likely be pushing the boat out as he’s contracted until mid 2027 so best part of three years compo to Boro at Championship rates. At least he’s a good age. Potter seems more likely as a freebie. He doesn’t have too awful win ratio’s 51% at Ostersund over a lot of games, 41% at Swansea, 31% Brighton, 39% Chelsea. Carrick 50% win ratio at Boro is respectable.

I think we sort of know that it will be a freebie and not a candidate that will take us to a new level is so short sighted for what is in actuality not a big sum to lay out. A few places higher finishing in the table would pay both Lopetegui and Stuttgart off. Not making the mistake in the first place would have been priceless.
