West Ham transfer news: Insider reveals two bids for £27m wantaway star
Claret & Hugh’s transfer insider has poured cold water on the latest rumour surrounding Niclas Fullkrug’s potential replacement.
Earlier this evening, TEAMtalk reported that West Ham are in pole position to sign Union Saint-Gilloise striker Promise David in the January transfer window.
They claimed the Hammers had already made contact to sign the 24-year-old and intended to use funds raised from the potential sale of Fullkrug.
However, when we raised this with our top transfer source, C&H were informed that no transfer bids have been made for the German striker. Furthermore, we were told by someone active in the transfer market that it is highly unlikely anyone would offer money for the injury-prone 32-year-old.
“If they’re waiting on the sale of Fullkrug, they’ll be waiting a long time,” said our source.
“West Ham can’t afford to wait for sales and need to start early in the window, and anyway, nobody will buy Fullkrug. They’ve had two loan bids which were nowhere near the player’s wages — that’s it.”
Best-Case Scenario: Loan With Option to Buy
C&H were also informed that the best the Hammers could hope for is a loan with an option to buy, because “nobody is going to commit big money based on his injury record.”
When we asked whether it was likely Fullkrug will leave the London Stadium in January, the response was clear:
“If he can stay injury-free, he’ll 100% go.”
But for now, any suggestion West Ham can fund a striker signing through a Fullkrug sale appears wide of the mark. If the club are serious about Promise David (or anyone else) they’ll have to use their own money.
