Nayef Aguerd’s future at West Ham United remains uncertain as the transfer window draws to a close. The Moroccan defender has struggled for playing time and is seeking a move away from the club.
According to Foot Mercato, FC Porto and Villarreal are emerging as frontrunners for his signature. Only two days ago an Instagram post was made by ‘a friend of Aguerd’ suggesting the player had been frozen out at West Ham. The update indictaed that the defender preferred a move to a European club rather than move to Saudi Arabia.
In addition to the European interest, Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad have also expressed an interest in Aguerd. This would be ideal for the Irons as the club looks to recoup as much of the €35 million fee we paid for him in the summer of 2022.
Aguerd’s is something of a necessity for West Ham. The club could use the funds generated from his sale to reinvest in other areas of the squad. However, the likelihood is that the centre back would generate nothing like the fee paid for him
Angelo Ogbonna has left, and Kurt Zouma has one dodgy knee out of the door, leaving Konstantinos Mavropanos to cover for new signings Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman, which as we saw last night is not ideal.
With limited defensive options, West Ham must act quickly to secure a new defender before the transfer window closes. Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah has been mentioned as a potential target, but the Blues may be reluctant to sell him.
West Ham United’s late transfer business looks dependant on theses outgoing deals happening, let’s hope it gets sorted soon.
Good the more clubs interested the more likely we are to get a better price for him…
Cornet, Ings and Zouma too please.
MT the blues are most definitely not reluctant to sell Chalobah, like Sterling and Gallagher before him, they want him and them gone. I feel if we leave it to the last minute and no one has come in for him we can get him for peanuts. Will be interesting to see how much Aguerd generates, he is a top player, for whatever reason it hasn’t worked out but at a different club I feel he will show his class again, would like to hope we can get £20 – 25m for him. Similarly JWP and Irving we should be able to get some good money for them, JWP played last night so it’s clear Lopetegui is happy with his attitude, if we could get £20m back there, and the 12 – 15 for Irving, it would at least represent a return and the weird way that PSR works maybe it would even count as a profit…
Imho we definitely need to look positive from a PSR perspective going into January so that we have funds to continue the rebuild, pretty much every signing with the exception of Alvarez and Kudus (who were Steidten picks) that Moyes made were not suited to a possession based game, which was reflected in our stats last season and also the style of Moyes-ball.
If we lose Aguerd and Zouma we might possibly need two more CB’s so Chalobah although not a first choice pick could be a good shout and we can still get Fabricio Bruno I believe who looks more like a Lopetegui player with a bit of the no nonsense Moyes about him.
Players values are written down on the books each year is called amortisation, so on the books they become worth less and less the further they are into their contracts.
If you keep a player for a while his book value goes down but his sale value may go up is how you make a profit for PSR.
Amortisation takes place over five years maximum, so if you put a player on a six or seven year contract and sell them after year five then whatever they sell for is 100% profit so far as PSR is concerned.
Minimum of 2 players for each position.
If Aguerd goes need another c/bk making it up to 4.
Emerson needs competition and cover for injury/suspension.
Cresswell not reliable enough another l/bk needed. KWP suggested (home grown also plays r/bk).
