The Hammers are reportedly looking east, setting their sights on young talents Yukinari Sugawara of AZ Alkmaar and Young-woo Seol from Ulsan Hyundai.

At 23 and 25 respectively, Sugawara and Seol represent a clear shift in West Ham’s transfer strategy. Tim Steidten, the club’s director of football, seems intent on injecting the squad with youthful dynamism, paving the way for long-term growth and value.

While Vladimir Coufal has performed decently at times this season, the Czech international is nearing the twilight of his career and Moyes knows the time for action is now after the defender only earned a one year extension – via the club option on his current deal.

Both Sugawara and Seol bring versatility to the table. The Japanese youngster can seamlessly transition from right-back to central defender or even winger, while Seol, the South Korean international, has the ability to play across both flanks and even operate as a right-winger.

This tactical flexibility adds another layer of interest to their potential arrival. Moyes, not normally known for his adaptability, may see a chance to could unlock new dimensions in his team’s play.

While targeting promising young talents like Sugawara and Seol carries risks, the potential rewards are undeniable. Their youth, versatility, and affordability make them intriguing options in West Ham’s quest to finally conquer the right-back conundrum.

However, a thorough evaluation of their individual qualities and suitability for Moyes‘ system is crucial before declaring them the ultimate solution.
