The sale of Edimilson Fernandes to Mainz for £8m followed by the sale of Lucas Perez to Alaves for £2.2m has added another £10.8m to the £30m summer transfer kitty.
The additions of goalkeepers Roberto and David Martin on free transfers on combined wages less than Adrian have also helped conserve transfer funds and reduce the wage bill.
With £40.8m now at his disposal Pellegrini is now likely to offload Reece Oxford to Augsburg for £3.6m and Javier Hernandez to Valencia for £8m next potentially bringing his transfer kitty to £52.4m
Pedro Obiang and Jordan Hugill could raise another £15m if their valuations are met taking the transfer fund still further to £67.4m.
The loss of Adrian, Andy Carroll and Samir Nasri is thought to have removed £205,000 per week from the wage bill. Fernandez and Perez removed another £95,000 per week meaning that £300,000 or £15.6m per year has been slashed off the wage bill with the two new goalkeepers only adding £30,000 per week combined.
The loss of Oxford, Hernandez, Obiang and Hugill could slash a further £225,000 per week off the club’s wages could make the grand total now available is £27.3m per year.
Not sure how club can move forward spending peanuts.
It’s like a car boot sale !
The figures are starting to look encouraging. So our third choice keeper is making at least half a million a year! Now wonder he looks so pleased…
I think both ‘keepers have been signed for less wages than Adrian alone – £30k pw combined – this is decent business imo, the wages they have cleared so far allows for spending on more important positions and improve the squad.
Well the thing is Kenny you have to forget all that stuff about Champions League – & probably Europe League. And the stuff from 2010 about bringing top class players in. The sot of sums being talked about might be enough to keep us round about where we are now- if the deals are good ones. My opinion, based on the sums being suggested plus our past record in the transfer market & out long term injury record, is that we are in the pack that includes Bournemouth, Southampton, Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley, Palace (plus probably Villa & Norwich ). Below Watford, Leicester & Wolves who will spend more. I am not too bothered about that if we can at least stay at the top of that group, but you are always in danger of slipping down. A good summer’s business could change that a bit, but will be surprised if it makes a major positive difference. £100m last year didn’t set the PL alight did it?
To be fair, that 100m was laying the foundations. You can’t go from a relegation threatened squad to best of the rest in one window, even spending 100m. It moved us up 3 places with 10 more points so another 100m could do the same. Personally I’m not happy being on Bournemouth and Brighton’s level. I want to be pushing for top 6 and only investment can help us do that. Wasn’t that the point in knocking down our home and renting?
