The Hammers ended up with several players who they planned to off load in the summer staying put: Guido Rodriguez hangs on despite interest from Saudi Arabia and Andrew Irving couldn’t agree a deal with Wrexham despite both the buying club and West Ham apparently agreeing terms. On the plus side, Emerson Palmieri got his move for more regular football, Edson Alvarez was ‘parked’ for a season at Fenerbahce and want-away defender Nayef Aguerd was sold.
One of the little known sub-plots from the summer window has just come to light courtesy of givemesport.com who report that newly fit again Crysencio Summerville was a Nottingham Forest target this summer. The web site reports in their article “unplayable West Ham Star snubbed Nottingham Forest move this summer”.
Quite how close to losing the winger West Ham actually came is not clear- however GMS claim:
“Nottingham Forest’s replacement purchases for Anthony Elanga reportedly weren’t their first-choices, according to reports — with the East Midlands outfit having earmarked West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville as their top target in the summer transfer window”
Apparently it was the West Ham winger himself who turned down any prospect of a move away from London Stadium. If their report is accurate, loyalty clearly is not dead in the young forward’s case:
“It was Summerville who had the final say. As far as the ‘unplayable’ star was concerned, he didn’t have any interest in leaving the London Stadium, “informing his representatives that he has ‘unfinished business’ at West Ham. That was his sign of commitment, owing them gratitude for their continued support despite a disappointing debut campaign in the capital.”
And of course the irony of a fit again Summerville exploding back into Premier League action with an assist and a penalty win to help West Ham secure a 3-0 first win of the season – against the very side who wanted to buy him – will not be lost on Hammers fans. Summerville himself promised ‘showtime’ when he was fit again: West Ham fans should have a ringside seat.
Good on the young man, I say. It seems loyalty does work both ways, in Summerville’s case.
The boy is a breath of fresh air I have a brother in law who is a Leeds season ticket holder for 30 odd years. When we signed him he told me he is unplayable on his day offensively but did switch off at times when defending. Hopefully he will improve in those areas we don’t need another Benrahma who wasn’t able to those duties which are essential in today’s style of football
Absolutely love the guy. And love him even more now. There is no way on earth I would be entertaining any offer for Summerville. Know this won’t go down well but would rather sell Bowen than Summerville.
Love the lad he has so much potential, working hard has skills . Want him do do well at West Ham & want the whole team to work hard and support each other. Some much needed younger players with pace in the team . Could have a good season fingers crossed . Would love us to beat Spurs , COYI ⚒
