United trio look certain to miss Hammers clash

|

It’s all smoke and mirrors at this time of the week of course but it looks as though Manchester United will be without injured trio Paul Pogba, Anthony Marital and Luke Shaw at the London Stadium on Sunday.

And Daniel James is also a doubt against a West Ham team where the only definite absentee from the last game is Arthur Masuaku although Manuel Lanzini faces a late fitness test.

It’s a boost for the Hammers that the United trio seem to be definitely out with manager Ole Ginnar Sosjkaer sounding pessimistic when asked about their fitness.

He said: “”They’ve not been training yet so I don’t think so. [Luke] won’t be ready. Daniel James? I don’t know. He’s not trained the last few days. Hopefully, but not sure.

Pogba (ankle) has not played since the 1-1 draw with Southampton three weeks ago, Martial sustained a thigh injury in the defeat to Crystal Palace on August 24 and Shaw came off with a hamstring injury in the same game.

James received a knock in last week’s 1-0 victory over Leicester and missed the Europa League win against Astana on Thursday evening. United will travel down to London on Saturday but Solskjaer is uncertain whether James will recover in time.

United have not won an away game since the Champions League comeback at Paris Saint-Germain on March 5 and last took three points on the road in the Premier League at Crystal Palace on February 25. United went ahead in both of their away games this term but Wolves and Southampton claimed equalisers in 1-1 draws.
