Utter Nonsense: West Ham Striker Claims Labelled Fantasy

Claims that West Ham are still in with a shout of signing Jonathan David have been described as nonsense by a Claret & Hugh source.

We told readers on January 22nd that there was zero chance of signing the Lille frontman, who is available on a free transfer in the summer.

However, the story has once again begun to gain momentum, but C&H have once again been told that David moving to West Ham is completely unrealistic.

Last month, after speaking to a trusted source involved in player recruitment, we were told: “Some of the biggest clubs in Europe are sniffing around him. He has had multiple offers and can choose from some of the biggest clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, PSG, both Milan clubs, Juventus, and Dortmund have all been in touch, so West Ham have no chance. The player will likely move to Barcelona.”

It is also our understanding, having spoken to a second source, that Barcelona are the clear favourites to sign the player, as was disclosed two weeks ago on Hammers Chat Patreon.

Much as it would be brilliant to sign such a prolific forward, David and his representatives would demand fees approaching £20m, and there is no shortage of Champions League clubs willing to pay it

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

I’ve said it before and probably naive to think it, but the fact that West Ham have had actual solid interest in David for the past three summer windows (at least) and apparently had an offer accepted in the summer (£30m, I believe) just past which only fell apart because of the fee his agent was demanding (supposedly in the £10m region) might play into our favour, potentially.

When you add the fact that he’ll know he’ll be coming in as first choice striker whereas at Barcelona he’ll have the likes of Lewandowski, Yamal, Torres and Raphinha competing with him then he might only be getting a kick of the ball in training so both of those might play in our favour?

Wishful thinking at best and naive at worst but don’t think it’s necessarily as completely a lost cause as it might seem at first glance.

Sullivan’s never going to pay a 20 million signing on fee and his wages could be astronomical .
