Valencia put West Ham out of their misery

Valencia have finally officially announced the signing of Maxi Gomez today putting an end to the long-running saga.

Releasing a short statement the Spanish La Liga club said: “Valencia CF have reached an agreement with Real Club Celta de Vigo for the transfer of Uruguayan international striker Maxi Gomez, who has signed his contract as a new Valencia CF player until June 2024, with a buyout clause of 140 million euros.”

The transfer involved a cash fee of €16m with Valencia Santi Mina valued around €25m going the other way valuing the total deal around £37m Celta Vigo rejected a record club bid from West Ham for €50m (£45.8m) based on payment terms on offer instead insisting they wanted all the money upfront. On arriving at Valencia airport Gomez told Spanish press he had told his agents (the Stellar Group) that he only wanted a move to Valencia and never really considered any other club.

Best wishes to the young man, I wish him a very successful career. I still have no idea we spent so much time and money on this transfer when he never wanted to play outside Spain. it is laughable.
