Video: David Moyes post match presser

David Moyes spoke to the press following the Hammers 1-0 victory over Burnley at the London Stadium

On Antonio:

Very good for somebody who is just coming back from injury and we are trying to bring him along quite slowly if it [the game] had been a bit easier I would have tried to get him off but it wasn’t and we needed him to worry them as much as we could. So, unfortunately, we had to keep him on, but it will do him no harm getting another 90 minutes under his belt.

Can Antonio play again on Tuesday?

We will have to look at it, we will see how the players recover in the next couple of days, but we will need to be careful with him at different times. We don’t expect him to play every minute in every game, so we will do what we can, but we are in a good run of form and if you’re a football player you have to be robust, Micky certainly showed a great level of robustness in the last six months so hopefully, we can get him back to that.

Covid protocols and goal celebrations, are the players not taking it seriously?

Maybe it is you just filming it and looking for it more often, rather than understanding that the players do a good job and that they are all trying to play and trying to be in an entertainment sport which you support, but if your cameras are going to continue looking for it then I’m sure you’ll find it.

Is the advice wrong then and the players should be allowed to just get on with it?

No, I don’t think the instructions are wrong, I think we are all trying to adhere by it, but of course, we sometimes make mistakes, I am sure you have too now and again, and so the players will do as well.

Looking ahead to West Brom and meeting Big Sam

Big Sam has always had an impact wherever he goes and I’m looking forward to seeing him back, I think he’ll be glad to be back here on Tuesday, but we have to hope that we can get a good result. It was a very good win for West Brom, but I am more interested in West Ham’s result today.

Four successive clean-sheets

By the end of the season, you have to win a number of games 1-0, we’ve done it a couple of times. I didn’t enjoy that we had chances and then we didn’t create more chances, especially in the first-half to maybe put the game out of sight. We hit the post from a corner, but it was a day where I needed my defenders to stand up and be counted and I thought Angello Ogbonna and Craig Dawson especially, those two stood up and were counted magnificently. So, good on them!

More on Antonio and a new striker

We’ve already made big inquiries and offers for players at clubs, which have not been accepted or obviously we would have signed somebody. It is not as if we are not trying to that, we have tried. But I need to get players who I think can make a difference and I want it to be someone who I think can help us.

If I don’t then I might need to look short term, just to get me through to get me another player, but if not then I will use the young players or I will have to try and use someone else from the squad and see how we can do it, but if Mick [Antontio] can gain his real form from where he has been in recent months then that will be a big thing for us and today he is getting closer. He got another 90 minutes, he got a goal, it’s what we really missed and we are glad to have him back.
