David Moyes post match press conference from Sunday night after the 1-0 loss at Old Trafford

Do you feel if you had shown the adventure you did after the goal you might have got a better result?

Yeah, you could be right but I mean once Man United got the first goal they were quite happy to sit on it and wait on us attacking so maybe no matter what way we played they would be attacking.

We made some changes and got a bit better as the game went on.

Up until the goal were the team carrying out the gameplan as you intended?

Parts of it we did okay but not so well, I was disappointed with quite a lot of aspects and so that’s why we made the changes.

I don’t know about a missed opportunity but what it was was a chance to pick up three points which we did not do tonight so overall I don’t think we did enough to earn it. We came close to something near the end but overall I wasn’t convinced with our performance tonight.

Was it a bit sloppy going forward especially when the shape was three at the back?

It was really poor. When we broke in the first-half I thought our play was really really poor when we were breaking in the first-half and that led to our poor… and that led to not having sustained attacks and we could not keep it [the ball] so our play on the break was really poor.

Do you think the performance after you sent on Benrahma and Lanzini can give you more confidence when you go into games against the top six?

I think we have recently just won against some of the top six teams and we have had a go against them. We thought tonight that the way we would play with two up, Jarrod [Bowen] and Michail [Antonio] as two forwards to start with we thought that might give them a problem to start with so I saw that as being positive in a different way.

But ultimately we got better as the game went on when we brought on Manu [Lanzini] and Said [Benrahma] I would say that. I would also say Man United might have been better than they were and they the team that was out did not concede any goals only one from a set-piece at that time and it was only after that that you can judge it.

What were your complaints with the referee at the end?

No, the referee is a really good referee Martin Atkinson I think he is one of the best referees there is I just felt that there were a couple of free-kicks that could easily have gone the other way and there was a bit of I would not say time-wasting but I think we were a bit like ten or fifteen seconds over the allotted time and we weren’t allowed to take the corner kick in the last minute which was a bit hard to take.

Lukasz Fabianski signed another contract and he did make a couple of good saves today, how important for everything you’re trying to build how important is it to have that solid base at the back?

Lukasz in recent weeks has been in really good form and that’s good because he has come back into it at an important time. He made a couple of saves tonight, he kept us in the games at different times so his form has been very good.
